Preparation
- • Review Scenario Spark Cards for appropriate complexity.
- • Set up the space for storytelling and role-playing activities.
- • Ensure the Feelings First Slides are ready to project.

The Playbook

Introduction & Video
5 Min
- Begin with a brief discussion about emotions and triggers. Define a "trigger" as something that happens that makes us feel a big emotion.
- Show the video "Guess the Emotions" to engage students and provide context for different feelings.

Storytelling Session
7 Min
- Read a short story (found in the Slides) that highlights different triggers and resultant emotions.
- Prompt: "How does Sam feel when the tower falls? Why? What was the trigger?"

Role-Play Activity
8 Min
- Divide the group into small teams (2-3 students).
- Ask each group to act out a Scenario Spark Card illustrating an emotional trigger and response.
- Facilitate a discussion after each role-play, connecting the activity to managing emotions effectively.

Reflection & Wrap-Up
5 Min
- Hand out the Heart Thoughts Journal pages.
- "Think of a time you felt a big emotion. Draw or write what triggered it and one thing that helped you feel better."

Story Time
“ Sam worked all morning on a giant block tower. It was taller than his knee! Suddenly, Toby ran past and his cape caught the corner. CRASH! The tower fell into a hundred pieces. Sam's face turned red and his hands became tight fists.

You are playing with your favorite toy. A friend comes over and takes it out of your hand without asking.
