Confidence Catalyst Teacher Guide Confidence Blueprints
Teacher Facilitation Guide
6th Grade SEL
Objective
Students will define confidence as a "skill to be built" rather than a fixed trait. They will identify past successes as "evidence" to build a blueprint for future challenges.
Timing
15 Minutes
+ Reflection Time
Morning Meeting Routine (15 Mins)
1
The "Solid Ground" Greeting (3 mins)
Students stand in a circle. Each student greets their neighbor with a firm handshake or high-five and names one thing they are "solid" at (e.g., "Good morning, Maya! I'm solid at soccer.")
2
The Blueprint Query (4 mins)
"When you see a skyscraper, you don't see the foundation underground. What's one 'underground' strength you have that people might not see immediately?"
3
Activity: The Power Pose Shift (5 mins)
Guide students through 30 seconds of a "Low Confidence" posture (slumping, looking down) vs. 30 seconds of a "High Confidence" posture (shoulders back, chin up). Ask: "How does your brain feel different in each structure?"
4
Morning Message (3 mins)
"Confidence isn't knowing you will succeed; it's knowing you can handle it if you don't. Today, we build our blueprints."
Reflection Task: Evidence of Awesome
Distribute the **Evidence of Awesome Graphic Organizer**. Explain that confidence is built on a foundation of "past evidence."
Guiding Question 1
"Recall a time you were nervous but did it anyway. What 'tool' did you use?"
Guiding Question 2
"What is one 'Structural Weakness' (a doubt) you want to reinforce today?"
Pro-Tips for 6th Grade
6th graders often equate confidence with "being the best." Emphasize that confidence is about trusting yourself , not beating others.
If a student says "I'm not good at anything," help them pivot to small wins: "Are you good at being a kind sibling? Following a schedule? Playing a specific video game?"
