Space Bubble Lesson Plan Teacher Facilitation Guide
Space Bubble Academy
Target Audience: Kindergarten | Objective: Personal Space on the Carpet
Estimated Time
30 Min
Learning Goal
Students will describe their personal space as an invisible "bubble" and demonstrate how to sit on the rug without touching or poping their peers' bubbles.
Materials Needed
Space Bubble Slides (Projector)
Real soap bubbles (for the hook)
Space Bubble Posters & Sit-Spots
"My Space Bubble" Worksheet
1. The Hook: Floating Bubbles (5 Mins)
Action: Gather students at the rug. Blow a few soap bubbles into the air above them. Ask them to look with their eyes but not touch or pop them.
Teacher Script: "Class, look at these beautiful bubbles! What happens if I touch them? Poof! They disappear! They are very fragile. Today, we are going to learn about a special, invisible bubble that each of you has around your body. It keeps you safe and cozy, but we have to make sure we don't pop it!"
2. Direct Instruction: The Space Bubble (10 Mins)
Project the Space Bubble Slides and walk through the core concept of the invisible bubble:
Your Bubble: An arm's length circle around your body in all directions.
Why we need it: So everyone has space to stretch, think, and feel safe.
How to keep it safe: Sitting with hands in lap, legs crossed ("criss-cross applesauce"), and eyes facing forward.
Teacher Script: "Stand up right where you are. Stretch your arms out wide like this. Circle them around. That is the size of your space bubble! Now, slowly sit back down on your spot. Pull your arms back in and tuck your feet in. Your bubble is now snug around you!"

Lesson Part II
3. Guided Practice: The Bubble Test (10 Mins)
Activity 1: The Wiggle Test
Have students wiggle their hips and wave their hands while seated on their spot. If they touch their neighbor, they have popped a bubble! Have them shrink back into a tight, quiet sit.
Activity 2: Pop or Safe Scenarios
Act out three mini-scenarios with a puppet or helper student. Ask students to put thumbs up for "Safe Bubble" or make a quiet "Pop!" sound for a popped bubble:
Scenario A: Teacher sits extremely close and touches a student's shoulder. (POP!)
Scenario B: Teacher sits criss-cross with hands in lap on their spot. (SAFE!)
Scenario C: A student lays down and rolls onto someone else's spot. (POP!)
4. Independent Reflection (5 Mins)
Distribute the "My Space Bubble" Storybook & Worksheet . Instruct students to color the picture of the child in their bubble, draw themselves inside their own bubble, and complete the physical trace path.
While they work, walk around and prompt them: "Who belongs inside your space bubble? Just you! Who stays outside? Your friends!"
5. Differentiation & Behavior Supports
Extra Support
Use physical tape or carpet sit-spots with clear borders. Provide tactile sensory cushions to help keep students anchored to their specific space.
Extenders/Helpers
Appoint a student to be the "Bubble Patrol" helper of the day, showing the physical cards when students enter the carpet to remind them of the rule.
