Introduction: The Briefing
"Good morning, future detectives! Today, we're going on an exciting mission to become 'Body Language Detectives.' Our bodies are amazing, aren't they? They do so many things: they help us run, jump, write, and even show how we're feeling without saying a single word!"
"Has anyone ever felt a knot in their stomach when they were nervous? Or maybe your heart started beating super fast when you were excited? Those are body signals ! They are clues our bodies give us about our emotions. Learning to notice these signals can help us understand ourselves better and even understand our friends better too."
"Today, we're going to learn how to spot these clues and figure out what our bodies are telling us about our feelings. This is super important because when we know how we feel, we can choose how to react in a way that helps us. Ready to be a detective? Let's go!"
SLIDE 3
Warm-Up: “How Does My Body Feel?” Game
"Alright, detectives, let's start with a warm-up game called 'How Does My Body Feel?'. I have some cards here, and each card describes a way your body might feel. Your job is to pick a card, and then without speaking, show us with your body how that feeling looks. Everyone else will guess what your body is telling us!"
Focused Support for Attention Difficulty:
"[Student's Name], can you pick a card for us? Great! Your card says 'tense.' Can you show us what 'tense' looks like with your body? What parts of your body would feel tight or stiff? Excellent! Who can guess what [Student's Name]'s body is feeling?"
"Wow, you all are amazing body actors! It's clear your bodies can tell us a lot. Sometimes when we're feeling tense, it might be a sign we're nervous or worried."
SLIDE 4
Activity 1: Body Signal Matching
"Now that we're warmed up, let's put our detective skills to the test with our 'Body Signal Matching' activity. I have some cards with specific body cues, like 'tight fists' or 'smiling mouth.' Your task is to match these body signals to the emotions they might represent. Think about what emotion usually goes with that body signal."
"Take a few moments to think about your matches. [Student's Name], why don't you show us one of your matches? You matched 'slumped shoulders' with 'sadness.' That's a great observation! Why do you think slumped shoulders might mean someone is sad?"
"Fantastic work, everyone! It's not always easy, but the more we practice, the better we get at connecting our body's language to our feelings."
