FIELD PROCEDURE

Introduction: Briefing
5 Minutes
- Open by asking students: "What do you think body language is?"
- Explain that body language is a "secret code" including facial expressions, gestures, and posture.
- Discuss why "cracking this code" is important for making friends and being helpful.

Detective Activity: The Lineup
10 Minutes
- Distribute the Clue Cards.
- Students take turns acting out the card while others guess the emotion.
- Introduce Scenarios: "Interpret what's happening based on how the suspect is standing."
- Ask: "What specific clues (eyes, hands, feet) helped you identify this?"

Charades Game: Stakeout
10 Minutes
- Mix emotions (Happy, Angry) with situational actions (Waiting impatiently).
- Act without speaking! No verbal clues allowed.
- Discuss: Was it easier to guess emotions or situations? Why?

Reflection: The Debrief
5 Minutes
- Gather students for the Debrief Discussion.
- Highlight how body language can change the meaning of words.
- Ask: "What was the most surprising thing you noticed today?"

"You are at the bus stop. The bus is 20 minutes late, and it’s starting to rain. You don't have an umbrella."
Look for clues:
- Checking watch/clock repeatedly
- Hunching shoulders against the rain
- Tapping foot or pacing
- Sighing or frowning

The Surprise Party
"You walk into your dark living room and suddenly all your friends jump out and yell 'SURPRISE!' for your birthday."
Look for clues:
- Wide eyes and open mouth
- Hands jumping to the face
- Quickly jumping back or freezing
- Huge smile appearing after the shock

"You have a really funny secret to tell your friend in the middle of a very quiet library where the librarian is watching."

- Covering mouth with a hand
- Looking around to see if anyone is listening
- Trying to hide a "silent" laugh

- Head down, searching the floor
- Eyes wide with worry
- Shoulders slumping when giving up

"Your teacher just explained a new math problem using letters instead of numbers, and you have no idea what just happened."
Look for clues:
- Tilting head to the side
- Squinting eyes at the board
- Scratching head or rubbing chin
- Looking at a neighbor's paper with a confused face

"You just found out that your drawing won the school art contest and will be on the front page of the newsletter."
Look for clues:
- Standing tall with chest out
- Clapping hands or pumping a fist
- Huge, beaming smile
- Fast, bouncy movements
