1. The Habit of a Boss (Study Skills)
Script: "A Brain Boss doesn't just work hard—they work smart! A Boss has a 'Landing Pad' for their backpack and a 'Power Spot' for homework. When we get ready for a test, we don't try to learn everything at once. We do a little bit every day. That's how we build a strong brain muscle!"
2. Blocking the "Noise" (Distractions)
Script: "Sometimes the world is loud. Your pencil drops, someone coughs, or your brain starts thinking about lunch. When that happens, imagine a 'Bubble Shield' around your desk. It keeps the work inside and the 'noise' outside. Let's practice taking one breath to turn on our shield."
3. Confidence Boost: Power Poses
Script: "If you feel small and scared, stand up like a superhero! Put your hands on your hips. Breathe deep. Your body is telling your brain: 'I am big. I am strong. I can handle this challenge.'"
Coping & Habits Cheat Sheet
Daily Habits
The Landing Pad: One spot where the backpack always goes. No more "where is my folder?" stress.
10-Minute Sprint: Set a timer for 10 minutes. Work hard, then take a 2-minute "Brain Break."
Checklist Power: Write down 3 things to do. Crossing them off releases a "happy brain spark."
Extra Coping Tools
Squeeze & Release: Squeeze your hands into fists for 5 seconds... then let go. It lets the stress out.
The 3-2-1 Focus: Find 3 things you see, 2 things you hear, and 1 thing you feel. This "grounds" the brain.
Positive Swap: When a child says "I'm bad at this," say: "This is hard right now. What's the first small step?"
MAP Test Coaching
The "Level Up" Mindset: Remind the student that MAP is adaptive. It must give them hard questions to find their level. Getting 50% wrong is actually expected and okay!
Distraction Blocking: Teach them to use a "Focus Tool" (if allowed)—like a piece of paper to cover the screen except for the question being read.
Attempting the Unknown: Reward the effort of guessing intelligently. "I love how you used the X-trick on that mystery problem!"
Troubleshooting: If the student refuses to start, they are likely in "Fight or Flight." Stop the work. Do the "Power Pose" or "Squeeze & Release" before trying again. Motivation follows action—start with the easiest 1-minute task.
