Mission Timeline
Part 1: The Briefing
5 Minutes
Hook: "Agents, today we have a special mission. We're investigating a mysterious feeling called Anxiety. It's like a false alarm in our bodies."
Define anxiety as the body's way of reacting to stress or worry. Explain that while it feels uncomfortable, it's actually our body trying to protect us—even when there's no real danger.
Part 2: Evidence Gathering
10 Minutes
Guide students through the "Physical Signs" section of their worksheet. Discuss how anxiety "shows up" in the body.
Discussion Prompts:
"Where in your body do you feel worry? (Stomach butterflies, shaky hands, fast heart?)"
"How does your brain feel? (Racing thoughts, hard to focus?)"
Part 3: The Secret Weapon Lab
10 Minutes
Introduce the **Strategy Toolbox**. Practice two techniques together:
School Strategy: Square Breathing
Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. (Quiet and invisible!)
Home Strategy: The 5-4-3-2-1 Technique
5 things you see, 4 you feel, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, 1 you taste.
Students will then circle the strategies they want for their own personal plan on the worksheet.
Part 4: Mission Accomplished
5 Minutes
Students finalize their **Calm Mission Plan**. They should have a clear trigger (The Clue), a Physical Sign, and their two chosen Strategies.
"Remember, Agents: Anxiety is just a feeling, and feelings always pass. Now you have the tools to handle it!"
Field Notes for Teachers
Support Strategies
For students who struggle with writing, allow them to draw their physical signs.
Provide a printed list of "feeling words" to help identify emotions.
Common Misconceptions
Students may think anxiety is "bad." Emphasize it's a natural protective response.
Clarify that calming strategies don't make the worry disappear immediately, but they make it easier to manage.
