The Situation

Trapped on Deserted Island!
Your ship has sailed away. You are safe on the beach, but there are a few challenges:
No electricity or power grids
No running water on tap
No prepared food or grocery stores
You must survive as a team until rescue arrives. Your squad's choices are the key to staying safe.

Every person in your group must agree on the 3 items. No one gets left out!

Write down why your team selected these 3 items. Prove why they are the best!
Rule: Everyone's vote is equally important!
Active Listening

How to Listen & Show Respect
Look & Nod
Turn your body toward the speaker. Nod your head to show you hear them, even if you do not agree yet.
No Interrupting
Let your classmate finish speaking their entire idea before you raise your hand or respond.
Practice: Take turns clockwise around your table.

Polite Expressing Phrases
Use these sentence starters during your group talk to negotiate nicely.
Agreeing
"I agree with that because..."
"That is a great point because..."
Disagreeing

Tip: Keep your voice level at a "Table Talk" volume (Level 2)

What is a Unanimous Decision?
Unanimous means everyone in the group agrees on the same choice.
How to tell if you are done:
Student A: YES Student B: YES Student C: YES
If even one classmate is not sure, keep discussing! Listen to their ideas and find a compromise.

Helps you see in the dark. Includes 10 spare batteries.

Bandages and medicine to treat cuts and minor injuries.

Helps spark warm fires without needing paper or matches.

For catching fresh food in the ocean. Requires patience!
Group Board Game
Keeps your group busy, but has no practical survival use.
Warm Blanket
Soft and extra-large. Protects team from cold nights.
Box of Chocolates
Extremely tasty treat, but will be eaten in just one day.
Metal Cooking Pot
Perfect for boiling water, cooking meals, and rain capture.
Strong Rope (50 ft)
Helpful for tying logs and building durable shelters.
Signal Mirror
Reflects sunlight to alert airplanes or boats for rescue.
Pocket Multi-Tool
Safe folder tool with mini-pliers, files, and can opener.
Inflatable Raft
Helps explore water, but vulnerable to popping on rocks.
Magnifying Glass
Can be used to spark tiny fires or examine small bugs.
Sturdy Umbrella
Protects you from harsh rain and strong sun heat.
Binoculars
Good for spotting faraway ships, birds, or islands.
Journal & Pencil
Good for writing memories or leaving messages for rescue.
