Teacher Resource
Lesson: Body in the Group (Ocean Adventure)
Learning Objectives
Identify "Body in the Group" (arm's length, facing others).
Understand that being "Body Out" sends a message of non-interest.
Practice staying in the group to achieve a "Group Plan."
Materials Needed
Deep Sea Slides
Bubble Buddy Matching Cards (1 set per pair)
Ocean Path Puzzle (1 per student)
Scissors & Glue
Captain's Script
The Hook
"Today we're diving deep! Just like fish in a school, we need to keep our bodies together. Why do fish stay in groups? (Protection, following the plan!)"
The Concept
"When your body is with the group, your friends know you are thinking about the same thing. If you swim away, their brains might feel confused!"
Guided Practice
"Let's practice our 'One Arm Space.' Reach out one arm. That's the perfect bubble of space to be in the group!"
Mission Timeline
Phase Activity Time Launch Use Deep Sea Slides to introduce Evan, Ellie, Jesse, and Molly and the "Group Plan." 10 mins Sorting Play Bubble Buddy Matching. Have students sort "Body In" vs "Body Out" images. 15 mins Sequencing Complete the Ocean Path Puzzle to recall the shark tooth hunt story sequence. 15 mins Closing "Freeze" Game: Play music and call "Body in the Group!" Kids find a partner and stand at arm's length. 5 mins
Differentiation Tip
For students who struggle with personal space, use physical floor markers or hula hoops to represent their "Body in the Group" bubble.
Watch Out For
Look for students whose bodies are "in" but brains are "out" (looking away). Remind them that bodies, eyes, and brains work as a team!
