1. Meeting Overview & Preparation
Target Competencies:
Active listening, non-verbal communication, social awareness, cooperative problem solving, and building empathy.
Materials Checklist:
Belonging Blueprint Slides, Student Blueprint sheets, pencils, clipboards (optional), markers/crayons.
Setup Tip: Arrange the seating in a circle so that all students have direct eye contact. Project Slide 1 as they enter. Encourage a calm, transition-ready climate by playing soft instrumental music.
2. Step-by-Step Pillar 1: Greeting (10 Minutes)
Objective: Ensure every single student hears their name spoken aloud in a positive, welcoming environment.
Facilitation Notes:
- Review the Greeting Options on Slide 3. Demonstrate each greeting with a student volunteer.
- Instruct students to turn to their left/right or find 3 students across the rug to greet.
- Ensure they use the target protocol: "Hello [Name], welcome to our crew!" followed by their chosen handshake.
Differentiate
K-2: Practice "The Level Check" or simple waving. 3-5: Encourage "The Custom Blueprint" with structured 3-second hand movements.
3. Step-by-Step Pillar 2: Sharing (10 Minutes)
Objective: Celebrate individuality while finding common community ground through visual choice representation.
Facilitation Notes:
- Project Slide 4. Read the options: The Library, The Theme Park, The Eco Treehouse.
- Model sharing: "I would be a library because I love learning and holding stories for others."
- Pair up students (mix ages if possible!). Give partner A 90 seconds to share, then switch.
- Active Listening Check: Ask three volunteers to share what their partner chose.
Differentiate
K-2: Focus on drawing feelings/choices. 3-5: Prompt students to explain a specific design detail of their choice.
