Introduction
"Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Welcome. Today, we're going to talk about something really important for all of our relationships and for how we feel day-to-day. We're going to explore how we can be 'Better Together.'"
5 mins
Partnered Check-in Activity
"To start, I want you to find a partner. Someone you feel comfortable sharing with. Once you have a partner, I want you to share two things with them: one feeling you're experiencing right now—it could be happy, tired, excited, calm, anything at all. And then, share one thing that helps you feel better when you have that feeling."
Teacher Tip: Circulate and listen. After 5 minutes, bring the class back together and ask: "How did that feel? Did anyone notice anything interesting while you were sharing or listening?"
10 mins
Defining Coregulation
Slides 2-3
"What you just did, listening to a friend and sharing your own feelings, is actually a great example of what we're going to discuss: coregulation ."
"Can anyone guess what coregulation might mean? What do you hear in that word? 'Co-' and 'regulation'?"
[Allow for responses]
"Coregulation is when two or more people support each other emotionally or physically to feel calm, safe, or regulated. Think of it like this: if you're feeling really stressed, and a friend calmly talks to you, helps you take deep breaths, or just listens, they're helping you coregulate."
"Two important words that go along with this are attunement and mirroring . Attunement means being in sync with someone else's emotions and needs—like being on the same wavelength. Mirroring is subtly reflecting another person's actions to show them, 'I see you, I hear you, and I'm with you.'"

Mirror, Mirror Activity
Slide 4
"Now, let's put these ideas into practice! One person will be the 'Leader' and the other will be the 'Mirror.' The Mirror's job is to silently and gently copy the Leader's movements and facial expressions. Focus on observation and subtle reflection. Try to truly 'feel' what your partner is doing."
Debrief: After switching roles, ask: "How did it feel to be the Leader? How did it feel to be the Mirror? What did you notice about your partner?"
10 mins
Discussion & Brainstorm
Slide 5
"How can we 'lend a hand' and offer coregulation to a friend? Take a few minutes with the worksheet to jot down as many ideas as you can. What does it look like, sound like, and feel like to offer support?"
Mirror Mirror Activity Instructions Mirror, Mirror Partner Activity
The Power of Attunement
Objective
To experience attunement and mirroring through non-verbal communication and focused observation.
Duration
10 - 15 Minutes
1
Set Up Your Space
Find a partner and stand or sit facing each other, about an arm's length apart. Decide who will be the Leader first and who will be the Mirror .
The Leader
Make slow, deliberate, and gentle movements.
Use facial expressions, hand gestures, and body shifts.
Focus on being smooth and clear.
No speaking allowed.
The Mirror
Copy the Leader's movements as if you are their reflection.
Pay close attention to every detail (speed, expression, posture).
Try to anticipate their movements to stay "in sync."
Maintain eye contact.
2
Begin the Session
The Leader begins moving slowly. Focus on the connection. The Mirror should try to be so accurate that an observer might not be able to tell who is leading.
3
Switch Roles
When the teacher gives the signal, pause for a moment of silence, then switch roles. Notice if it feels different to be the Mirror versus the Leader.
Discussion Questions
"What was the hardest part about being the Mirror? What was the hardest part of leading?"
"How did you know what your partner was going to do next? What cues did you use?"
