Just Right Writing
Name:
Date:
"I have wonderful ideas in my brain. When I write my letters at a smaller size, everyone can read them!"
1
Writing Is Sharing
Writing with my pencil lets me share my thoughts, stories, and answers. My hand holds the pencil with my pinchy fingers, ready to put my ideas on the paper. I need to use my tools to have neat handwriting, including my pencil, my eraser, my finger spacer and wikki sticks if I need them.
My words and ideas are important.
2
When Letters Grow Giant
Sometimes my hand moves very fast and writes too big! Mrs. McCarthy has taught me how to write small. I can write small when I slow down, and try my best! It is important I write my best for all of my teachers.
Too big: B I G !
Letters get crowded and run out of room.
3
Reading Can Feel Hard
When letters are huge, it can be tricky for my eyes and my teacher to read my sentences. I might run out of space on my paper when writing big.
"What does this say?" is okay to hear.
4
I Can Pause and Reset
If I notice my letters getting too large, I can take a deep breath. I can rest my hand and remind myself: "Small and neat keeps words sweet!"
I am calm. I can write just right.

Action Steps
How I Write Smaller
I can do this step-by-step!
Look at the Handwriting Lines
Small letters live in the cozy ground floor!
Too Giant Escaping the lines!

Just Right Size Cozy inside!
c a t
Stays under the dotted line.
Step 1
Soft Fingers
I hold my pencil like a gentle baby bird. Soft fingers make smaller strokes.
Step 2
Stay In the Yard
Small letters like a, c, e, o, s stop at the middle dotted line.
Step 3
One Finger Space
I put my finger down between words so each word has room to stand.
Remember
Writing smaller is a skill I practice. It takes time, and that is completely okay! Every line I write gets a little more neat.
