Safety Fast-Track
Danger / Unsafe → Step 3
Notice & Pause: If hands clench or heart beats fast, take 1 slow breath before acting.
Follow Steps 1 → 2 → 3
Step 1
Ask Politely to Stop (One Clear Request)
Calm, Neutral Tone
State what you want calmly without arguing, insulting, or raising your voice. Give them one chance.
Clear Scripts (Pick One)
- • “Please stop doing that, it’s distracting me.”
- • “I need to focus right now. Please give me space.”
- • “I don’t like that nickname. Please use my real name.”
Body Cues
- Relaxed shoulders • neutral facial expression
- Brief eye contact or look toward their forehead
- Do not touch, point fingers, or crowd space
If they repeat, laugh, or don’t stop
Step 2
Create Space: Ignore or Walk Away
Remove Attention
Peers often stop when they don’t get a reaction. Stepping back protects your peace and keeps you out of trouble.
Choice A: Active Ignore
- • Turn your shoulders and head away
- • Shift attention to your notebook, laptop, or book
- • Say nothing more (no arguing, no sighs)
Choice B: Move Away
- • Move to an empty desk or open table
- • Hallway/Cafeteria: walk to another group or locker
- • Excuse yourself: get water or use restroom pass
If they follow, continue, or escalate
Step 3
Get Support: Tell a Trusted Adult
Asking for Help = Smart
You handled steps 1 & 2 independently. Getting an adult ensures safety and holds others accountable.
Clear Reporting Formula
1. Who: “[Name] is bothering/teasing me.”
2. My action: “I asked them to stop and moved away.”
3. What I need: “They followed me. Can you help?”

Tip: Write it on a sticky note if speaking aloud feels overwhelming.
Immediate Bypass Rule: If anyone threatens physical harm, touches your body/belongings, or uses slurs, skip Steps 1 & 2 and notify an adult immediately.
