Adjustment Counselor Growth Plan
Student Support Services SAC Growth Cycle (2026–2028)
Adjustment Counselor Growth Plan
Domain: High Expectations, Culturally Responsive Counseling & Curricular Engagement
Target: May 2028
Counselor Name
Role / Caseload Focus School Adjustment Counselor
Evaluator / Supervisor
Cycle Start Date November 2026
Formal Professional Practice Goal (SMART)
By May 2027/28, I will strengthen my professional practice to hold high expectations for students by consistently developing and implementing plans that include clear objectives, culturally responsive strategies, and progress monitoring tools in all of my sessions. Progress will be measured through service or intervention plans, student progress data related to engagement in the curriculum, and feedback from supervisors and colleagues.
SAC Core Protocols: High Expectations in Counseling
Tier 2 & 3 Sessions
1. Clear SEL Targets
- 1a. Explicit Session Goals: Move from open-ended venting to skill-driven targets (e.g., "SWBAT utilize 1 grounding strategy to return to academic block").
- 1b. Curricular Tie-In: Frame emotional regulation directly as the bridge to accessing grade-level learning and personal aspirations.
- 1c. Mastery Criteria: Pre-define what successful self-advocacy and de-escalation looks like in the classroom setting.
2. Culturally Responsive Care
- 2a. Asset-Based Framing: Honor cultural communication norms, family values, and community strengths rather than pathology.
- 2b. High-Support Scaffolds: Teach regulation scripts, bilingual feeling wheels, and somatic grounding without excusing classroom non-engagement.
- 2c. Restorative Accountability: Facilitate repair conversations between student and teacher that uphold high behavioral standards.
3. Session Progress Tools
- 3a. Pre/Post SUDs Scaling: Rate emotional distress / dysregulation (1–10) at minute 1 vs. minute 25 of every counseling session.
- 3b. Re-Entry Contract: Student signs a 1-sentence commitment specifying the exact academic task they will complete upon return.
- 3c. Weekly Engagement Log: Track minutes out of class, frequency of crisis calls, and teacher-reported academic stamina.
Operational Practice Cadence for Adjustment Counseling
Daily Routine Set SEL objective per session; log pre/post distress rating; establish re-entry commitment to academic class.
Weekly Routine Audit caseload time-out-of-class; send quick 2-question progress check to 3 general ed teachers per student.
Bi-Weekly Routine Review student self-monitoring logs; co-calibrate IEP/504 accommodations with special educators and team.
Monthly Routine Clinical supervision debrief; analyze attendance & academic engagement correlation for all Tier 2/3 students.

Multi-Year Roadmap: Standardizing High Expectations & Academic Access (2026–2028)
Action Matrix
Phase 1
Session Plan Standardization & Baseline Engagement Metrics
Nov 2026 – Feb 2027
Action 1.1: Design and implement a standard Tier 2/3 Counseling Session Plan with required fields: CASEL-aligned SEL objective, cultural/asset anchor, in-session scaling check, and academic re-entry goal.
Action 1.2: Conduct culturally responsive asset interviews with 100% of caseload students to identify protective factors, community support systems, and personal academic aspirations.
Action 1.3: Establish the "Academic Access Tracker" in Google Sheets to log date, duration, reason for office visit, and class time preserved vs. missed per student.
Tangible Deliverables
- Standardized SAC Session Template
- Completed Caseload Asset Profiles
- Baseline Academic Access Tracker
Status: In Active Progress
Phase 2
Culturally Sustaining Coping Toolkits & Classroom Push-In Support
Mar 2027 – Jun 2027
Action 2.1: Curate culturally affirming coping toolkits (multilingual somatic grounding scripts, identity affirmation cards, guided visualizations reflecting students' cultural backgrounds).
Action 2.2: Pilot "in-situ" push-in support during challenging academic blocks (e.g., math, ELA) to scaffold self-regulation without removing students from instruction.
Action 2.3: Conduct 2 reciprocal peer observations with another SAC / School Psychologist focused on maintaining high academic expectations during crisis and counseling debriefs.
Tangible Deliverables
- Culturally Responsive Coping Kit
- Push-In Observation Logs (4 classes)
- 2 Peer Clinical Debrief Protocols
Milestone: Year 1 Review (May 2027)
Phase 3
Student Self-Regulation Portfolios & Teacher Co-Consultation
Sep 2027 – Jan 2028
Action 3.1: Guide caseload students to maintain personal "Regulation & Engagement Trackers" where they log their trigger awareness, coping tool usage, and daily class participation.
Action 3.2: Implement bi-weekly consultation with classroom teachers using a standard 1-page feedback form to track whether counseling skills are transferring to academic tasks.
Action 3.3: Revise Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and 504 plans to replace purely deficit-based accommodations with scaffolded resilience strategies that preserve rigorous work.
Tangible Deliverables
- Student Regulation Portfolio Samples
- Teacher Bi-Weekly Consultation Logs
- 3 Updated High-Expectation BIPs
Milestone: Mid-Year Review 2 (Jan 2028)
Phase 4
Longitudinal Impact Synthesis & Staff Capacity Building
Feb 2028 – May 2028
Action 4.1: Analyze longitudinal data comparing caseload students' pre/post intervention attendance, disciplinary referrals during academic blocks, and course pass rates.
Action 4.2: Assemble the comprehensive Summative Portfolio containing service plan samples, progress monitoring trend charts, and colleague feedback testimonials.
Action 4.3: Facilitate a professional development workshop for faculty: "Holding High Expectations for Dysregulated Students: Trauma-Informed Accountability in the Classroom."
Tangible Deliverables
- Longitudinal Caseload Impact Report
- Final SAC Summative Portfolio
- Faculty PD Presentation & Tool Sheet
Target: Final Summative (May 2028)

Affirms cultural identity and family systems; utilizes restorative dialogue and strengths-based interventions rather than deficit-oriented behavior management.
3. Rapid Progress & Re-Entry Checks In-Session Flow
Employs pre/post distress scales and structured re-entry contracts to minimize time away from academic instruction and measure immediate skill acquisition.
4. Interdisciplinary Advocacy Weekly Consultation
Regularly consults with general and special educators to align classroom accommodations, monitor academic stamina, and reinforce student accountability.
