Intervention Protocols & Trial Data Tracker
ABA / Least-to-Most Prompting
Least-to-Most Prompting Hierarchy (Door & Window Trials)
Level 1: Independent
Knock or window tap sounds → student stops, steps back 2 steps, hands card/hits AAC unprompted.
Level 2: Gestural / Point
Teacher silently points to floor line, then points to student's STOP card or AAC device.
Level 3: Direct Model
Teacher steps back from window/door, folds hands, and holds up sample STOP card for imitation.
Level 4: Physical Guidance
Gently guide student hands to sides, step back 2 steps, guide hand to deliver card to teacher.
Door & Window Error Correction Protocol
If student touches door handle or window latch: Instantly block with hand or clipboard. Calmly redirect hands down: "Hands down. Latches stay shut." Prompt student to step back and tap STOP card. Re-run trial within 30 seconds so student finishes on an unprompted or least-prompted correct response.

Family Door & Window Safety Guide
Send Home With Student
Dear Parent or Guardian,
This week, your student practiced vital front door and ground-floor window safety using tactile practice stations. Many autistic students are curious about knocks or window views, but opening them to strangers or leaning on window screens poses severe safety risks. We taught the universal rule: "Kids never unlock doors or windows—always get an adult."
Please reinforce these exact 3 steps at your front door and windows:
1
FREEZE HANDS
When chime or window tap sounds, praise child for keeping hands off locks, knobs, and window sashes.
No Touching Latches
2
TAKE 3 STEPS BACK
Prompt child to retreat from the entryway or window glass toward the family living area.
Safe Distance
3
TAP ADULT / USE AAC
Celebrate when your child taps your arm, points, or presses their AAC speech button.
Adult Opens Safely
Recommended Home Door & Window Safeguards
Install Window Stops: Add wedge locks limiting window opening to under 4 inches to eliminate fall/elopement hazards. Inspect Window Screens: Ensure child understands insect mesh screens pop out easily and cannot support weight. Hang Visual Prompt: Place student's laminated "STOP! Adult Checks Door" hanger directly on inside door handle. High Security Deadbolt: Ensure secondary deadbolt or safety flip-guard is engaged beyond student's unprompted reach.
Optional Home Practice Return Slip: Return to Teacher by Friday
