05 / Emergency Preparedness Protocol
If I arrive at class and discover I am missing cargo (tools/homework), I will not disengage. Instead, I agree to use my Self-Advocacy Code : I will approach the Commander BEFORE class begins and ask: "I am missing my pencil/binder today. May I borrow one in exchange for returning it?" This keeps the mission active!

PHASE 01
Mission Assembly (Student Buy-in Meeting)
Do not hand this kit to the student during class as a disciplinary task. Schedule a 15-minute collaborative planning session during a quiet period to build safety and excitement.
1. Define the Mission: Focus on lowering stress. "You aren't in trouble. This space-themed kit is about packing the right cargo so you can launch classes smoothly."
2. Negotiate the Payload: Establish non-tangible, meaningful rewards. If student loves helping with tech, their daily payload is "3 mins managing projector." Keep it simple.
PHASE 02
Pre-Flight Telemetry (Executive Functioning Scaffolds)
Executive functioning deficits make mental transitions invisible. We must make them concrete using spatial organization and visual aids.
The Locker Station Layout: Work with the student to clean out and color-code locker shelving. Tape the transition checklist right to the inside of locker door.
The Hallway Dry Run: Conduct a 5-minute empty hallway walk. Prompt: "Okay, we just ended math. Walk to locker, deposit math, pull science binder. Go!" Build muscle memory.
PHASE 03
Active Operations (Daily Verification Procedure)
Keep the interaction fast, objective, and supportive. The check-off must never feel punitive or slow down the class.
15-Sec Check-in
As student desks, glance over to check tablet battery, notebook, and pencil.
Immediate Feedback
Deliver a quick thumbs up or "Gear looks solid. Ready for flight today."
Stamp & Celebrate
At the end of class, let the student stamp or check off their Star Tracker.
Distress Management & Redirection Scripts
If the student arrives unprepared, do not criticize or cancel the daily progress stamp instantly. Instead, scaffold their self-advocacy system immediately to preserve motivation:
PROACTIVE INTERVENTION SCRIPT:
"Hey Pilot, I see you didn't have your Chromebook today. Let's use our Emergency Distress Protocol. Ask me the Self-Advocacy question on your dashboard, borrow a lender, and we'll keep the mission active. We can still save your star if you return it at the end of class."
Phase 05 / Orbit Exit (Intervention Fading Strategy)
The ultimate goal is internal executive control. Once the student maintains an , initiate the fading phase.
