To find the first step, look for the first Action Verb and the Subject it acts on.

This sequence is designed for 11th-grade students who experience executive functioning challenges, specifically in the area of working memory. By the end of this unit, students should view "System Overload" as a predictable mechanical error that can be fixed with specific "hacks" (masking, isolation, and verification).
Lesson 1: The First Actionable Step
Key Concept
Isolating the Verb + Noun combination to ignore secondary instructions.
The Hook
Read a 5-sentence instruction block very quickly and ask for "Step 4." Students will likely fail; link this to CPU RAM overload.
Lesson 2: Visual Masking
Facilitation Note
Have physical cardstock and scissors ready. The act of "blocking out the noise" should be tactile and satisfying.
Modification
For digital-heavy classrooms, focus on the Zoom hack (300% zoom) or Window Shrink hack .
Lesson 3: Linear Checklists
The LEGO Hook
If possible, give half the class a paragraph of LEGO instructions and the other half a visual guide. Compare completion times.
Common Error
Students often put too much text in their checklists. Remind them: 1 Verb per Line.
