Lesson 1: Mind Picture Studio
Introduction Hook
"Close your eyes. I want you to imagine a purple elephant. It's standing in the middle of our classroom. It's wearing a tiny yellow hat. Can you see it? Even though there isn't a purple elephant here, your brain just made a picture of one! That's your 'Mind's Eye' at work."
Worksheet Prompts
Read these prompts slowly to the class. Give students 2-3 minutes after each prompt to sketch on their Mind Picture Worksheet .
Prompt #1: The Big Blue Whale
"Imagine a massive blue whale swimming in a deep, dark ocean. See the tiny bubbles coming out of its blowhole. Notice how its skin looks slightly bumpy and wet. It's so big it fills up your whole mind!"
Prompt #2: The Spicy Dragon
"Imagine a small, green dragon sitting on a pile of gold coins. It's about the size of a cat. Smoke is curling out of its nostrils, and its scales are shimmering like emeralds. It's holding a single red pepper in its claws."
Prompt #3: The Space Cat
"Imagine a fluffy white cat floating in outer space. It's wearing a silver astronaut helmet. Around the cat, there are glowing stars and a giant pink planet. The cat is chasing a floating ball of yarn."
Instructional Tips
Wait Time: Silence is key. After reading a prompt, stay quiet for at least 30 seconds to let their mental images form before they start drawing.
Differentiation: For students who struggle to 'see' anything, suggest they think about the *words* first. "What color is the whale? Where is it?" rather than forcing the image.
No Judgement: Remind students that these aren't art projects. The goal is to capture the *facts* of their mental image, not to draw a masterpiece.
