Use the slides to explain FERPA/HIPAA. This is often a new concept for undergrads. Emphasize that free versions of consumer apps often don't include the necessary Business Associate Agreements (BAA) for medical data (HIPAA).

Distribute the Tool Evaluation Matrix . Students should choose 3 tools from different categories (e.g., one for notes, one for project management, one for data). They must research the "Privacy Policy" or "Security" pages of these tools specifically.

Expert Tips
Focus on the Google Ecosystem: Many schools are Google-based. Encourage students to evaluate how "built-in" tools (Keep, Tasks, Drive) compare to third-party ones.
The "Free" Factor: Remind students that as first-year teachers, they may not have a budget. If an app costs $10/month, is it worth $120/year of their own money?
Check for "Accessibility": Does the tool work with screen readers or have high-contrast modes? A teacher's tool should be as accessible as the curriculum they teach.
