Adhere strictly to lab manuals, safety codes, and teacher prompts before initializing any lab or device tasks.

Action: Directives first!

4. Tech Integrity

Keep liquids away from keys. Use digital accounts strictly for school tasks and keep screens angled visibly.

Action: Digital accountability!

Discussion: "How does damage reporting protect the next group working at our station?"

Slide 4 of 4

The Exemplar: Ring the chime unexpectedly. The moment it rings, students immediately drop papers/pencils, freeze in their seats, and look directly at the teacher silently within 3 seconds.

Part 4: 6-8 Track — Lab & Device Safety (8 Mins)

Say: "Look at Slide 4. In grades 6-8, we utilize lab equipment, electronics, and digital accounts. Our maturity is tested by how we manage boundaries in these zones. Let's look at non-exemplars and exemplars in technology use."

Interactive Case: Frayed Cords & Drinks (4 Mins)

The Non-Exemplar: Placing a giant, open mug of hot cocoa right next to a school Chromebook keyboard while working, or pulling a power cord out of the wall by yanking the wire itself instead of the plastic plug head.

The Exemplar: Keeping liquids strictly on separate side tables, and pulling chargers gently by the insulated plug head. Informing a teacher immediately if a cord is worn or hot.

Part 5: Anchor Chart Entry (2 Mins)

Closing Prompt: "Before we finish, let's update our co-created Weekly Safety Anchor Chart with our Day 2 classroom codes! What should we record inside our Day 2 shield? (Teacher records 'Chair Flat, Clear Walkways, Safe Supply Handover'). Give me a silent thumbs-up if your desk is currently safe!"

Part 4: 6-8 Track — Commuter Responsibility (8 Mins)

Say: "Look at Slide 4. In hallways, stairwells, and lockers, you are expected to move with purpose. Let's examine how minor transit blocks create physical hazards for younger students."

Middle School Discussion: Hallway Bottlenecks (4 Mins)

The Non-Exemplar: Stand with 4 of your friends in a wide circle right at a narrow stairwell landing or in the center of the hallway to chat. A line of younger students is forced to break ranks, push, and trip over backpack straps.

The Exemplar: Standing flat against lockers or in a designated wall recess when talking; walking in single/double file on the right side of the hallway to keep corridors open.

Part 5: Anchor Chart Entry (2 Mins)

Closing Prompt: "Before we exit today, let's update our co-created Weekly Safety Anchor Chart with our Day 3 corridor codes! What should we record inside our Day 3 shield? (Teacher records 'Silent Train/Walk on Right, Restroom Privacy, Keep Locker Lanes Clear'). Outstanding effort today!"

Page 2 of 2 Safe School Shield • Day 3 Guide

Part 4: 6-8 Track — Cafe Community (8 Mins)

Say: "Look at Slide 4. In grades 6-8, dining hall safety is an exercise in communal maturity. You are responsible for ensuring your tables are clear of liquids and wrappers before dismissal. Let's compare non-exemplar and exemplar behaviors."

Interactive Case Study: "The Custodian's Lesson" (4 Mins)

The Non-Exemplar: Splattering chocolate milk, leaving a sticky heap of napkins and food scraps on the table, and walking away laughing. A custodian has to clean it up, and a peer slips on the mess.

The Exemplar: Wiping down the table immediately if a spill occurs, picking up wrappers, thanking our custodians, and leaving the station clean for the next group.

Part 5: Anchor Chart Entry (2 Mins)

Closing Prompt: "Before we exit today, let's update our co-created Weekly Safety Anchor Chart with our Day 4 dining codes! What should we record inside our Day 4 shield? (Teacher records 'Two-Hand Tray Carry, Level 2 Voices, Clean Table Spaces'). Excellent work, safety heroes!"

Predicting Future Challenges

How Will We Stay Strong?

It's easy to follow rules during training, but hard when real-world challenges pop up. Discuss with your class:

  • Challenge 1: What if we are extremely excited or running late?
  • Challenge 2: What if other students are breaking the shield code around us?
  • Challenge 3: What if we disagree on a rule during an indoor recess day?

Class Discussion: "What strategy will our classroom use to handle these scenarios successfully?"

Slide 5 of 5

Part 5: School-Wide Safety Summit (5 Mins)

Now, transition to Slide 5 (Weekly Safety Summit). Direct students' attention to our completed class Weekly Safety Anchor Map. Lead the class through a reflective discussion about upcoming challenges.

Teacher Led Prompts & Scenarios:

"Heroes, we've successfully co-created our Safe Shield codes this week! But what happens when we face real-world challenges? Let's predict them and decide how we'll handle them as a team:"

Scenario 1 (Running Late/Excited): "You are so excited for recess that you want to sprint out the door. How do we handle this?"
• Class Strategy: Take a deep breath, activate 'Pocket Hands,' and walk.

Scenario 2 (Peer Pressure): "A friend laughs and pushes you on the stairs, telling you to rush. What is your safe response?"
• Class Strategy: Keep your balance, say 'Safety first, buddy!' and maintain your pace.

Scenario 3 (Indoor Recess Days): "It's pouring rain and we are stuck inside. Disagreements over board games start popping up. What do we do?"
• Class Strategy: Activate our 10-Second Dispute Rule immediately. No arguments!

Part 6: Safe Shield Graduation (2 Mins)

Say: "You have completed your 5-day Safe Shield program! You are now certified Safety Heroes. Let's protect our school together. Shields Up!"
