Power Down Champs Story and Cue Cards
Power Down Champs
My Calm Transition Social Story
Player Name:
1. Video Games Are Awesome Fun!
I love playing video games. They have exciting levels, great graphics, and fun missions. Every game session has a start time and a finish time so my brain and eyes get healthy rest.
2. Countdown Warnings Help Me Prepare
Before screen time ends, my parents give me helpful warnings (like 5 minutes, 2 minutes, or a timer sound). When I hear the warning, I start wrapping up my level so I am ready.
3. Big Feelings Happen—And That's Okay
When my parents say "Time to turn it off," I might feel disappointed or annoyed. It is okay to feel sad that game time is over, but whining, crying, or refusing makes everyone stressed and doesn't give me more playtime.
4. The "Save & Pause" Super Move
I use my champion routine: 1) Reach a safe checkpoint, 2) Press Save or Pause, 3) Power down the monitor/console, and 4) Put the controller in its charging dock. My game will be right there waiting for next time!
5. Calm My Body & Bridge to Next Fun
If my body feels tense, I take 3 deep Dragon Breaths or do 5 wall push-ups. Then I remember the First-Then rule: First screen off, Then I get to do my next fun activity like building Legos, having a tasty snack, or playing outside!
My Champion Promise
When I power down calmly, my parents are proud and I earn my next screen session!
