Implementation Principle: Accommodations are proactive access tools, not contingent rewards. Establish these settings prior to class so the student begins every period equipped for success.
1
Preferential Seating Placement
Original: Near instruction & low traffic
What to Do (Clear Specifics)
- • Seat within 6–10 feet of primary instruction / board.
- • Direct, unobstructed sightline (no head-crane needed).
- • Position back toward window to eliminate glare & outdoor distractions.
What to Avoid (Buffer Zones)
- • Maintain 6+ ft buffer from entry/exit door.
- • Keep away from pencil sharpener, sink, and trash cans.
- • Avoid seating adjacent to chatty or impulsive peers.
2
Sensory & Movement Tools
Original: Alternative seating & fidgets
Approved Seating
Wobble stool, inflatable disc cushion on chair, or standing desk station with foot fidget bar.
Approved Fidgets
Silent textured desk strip, therapy putty, marble-in-mesh sleeve, or chair leg resistance band.
Classroom Contract
"Tools stay below desk level, make zero sound, and keep eyes on learning. If it distracts, swap tool."
3
Assistive Technology: Reading & Writing Protocols
Important Operational Correction
Clarification: The original wording stated "Speech to Text for longer reading assignments." In practice, Text-to-Speech (TTS) supports reading, while Speech-to-Text (STT) supports writing. Both are detailed below:
Reading: Text-to-Speech (TTS)
- • Use for reading passages exceeding one paragraph.
- • Tool: Screen reader (Read&Write, Kami, or Chrome extension).
- • Require wired headphones to prevent peer distraction.
Writing: Speech-to-Text (STT)
- • Use voice typing (Google Docs Voice Typing) for initial drafting.
- • Position student in a quiet room corner to reduce voice feedback.
- • Focus first on idea generation; edit spelling/punctuation after.
Morning / Period Start Routine: Seat confirmed • Fidget in place • Headphones connected & tested

Assignment Chunking, Digital Screen Management & Fidelity Tracker
Action Protocols
4
Structured Writing Chunking & Checkpoints
Original: Break down writing w/ checkpoints
Never hand out an entire multi-paragraph prompt at once. Deconstruct the assignment into sequential mini-milestones with quick teacher sign-offs:
Chunk 1: Outline
Graphic organizer & thesis statement only.
Checkpoint 1 ✓
Chunk 2: Intro & Body 1
Draft intro + first claim with 1 evidence quote.
Checkpoint 2 ✓
Chunk 3: Body 2 & End
Second evidence piece + brief conclusion draft.
Checkpoint 3 ✓
Chunk 4: Polish
Run spellcheck, read aloud, format final draft.
Final Review ✓
5
Screen Monitoring & Digital Restraints
Original: Chromebook monitoring & block YouTube
System Filtering Rules
- • Apply software scene (GoGuardian/LanSchool) during work.
- • Block YouTube, Discord, web games & Reddit automatically.
- • Keep teacher dashboard open to active student tab.
Physical Device Orientation
- • Angle screen outward toward classroom aisle for passive checks.
- • No privacy screen covers permitted on device.
- • Device stays flat on desk; screen lid at 90-degree angle.
6
Paper Copy Contingency & Pivot Protocol
Original: Paper copies when iPad is a distraction
1. Pre-Print Stash
Print 1 complete physical copy of all digital materials into a designated folder at start of day.
2. The 1-Notice Pivot
If off-task after 1 brief redirection, quietly say: "Let's switch to the paper version for today's task."
3. Neutral Delivery
Gently close device lid, set paper down, and provide pencil. No public lecture or disciplinary mark.
