Daily Timeline
08:30 AM • Arrival Alerting
Welcome & Orientation
Provide bright visual daily schedules. Engage in active greetings with rhythm/claps or high-fives. Use dynamic lighting to prompt alertness.
10:00 AM • Mid-Morning Tactile
Tactile Focus & Prep
Hands-on tactile desk tasks: sensory putty, water play, or textured shape-sorting. Excellent transition buffer prior to table academic tasks.
12:30 PM • Post-Lunch Calming
De-escalation & Rest
Apply deep pressure input (weighted vest/lap pad). Dim overhead fluorescents, play slow-tempo pink noise or soft classical music.
01:45 PM • Afternoon Alerting
Active Movement Break
High-stimulation movement: mini-trampoline jumping, obstacle walking, or throwing/catching heavy balls. Helps counteract afternoon lethargy.
02:45 PM • Dismissal Calming
Settle & Pack Up
Slow, linear vestibular input (gentle rocking chair) and targeted breathing or joint compressions to prep student for the noisy transition home.
Core Principles
- • Proactive scheduling prevents sensory overload; do not wait for dysregulation to occur.
- • Visual choice cards must be available at all transition points to decrease anxiety.
- • Consistency is critical: maintain the same color system across schedules and cards.
Transition Strategies
1
Visual Countdown
Use a physical timer or visual countdown strip (3 min, 1 min, Now) to signify change.
2
Sensory Bridge
Let the student carry a highly preferred tactile comfort object (e.g., small textured square) between areas.
3
Clear Visual Boundaries
Define physical pathways and sensory zones clearly on the floor using tape or specialized rugs.
Choice Board Setup
1. Print & Laminate: Print the companion "Sensory Choices Visual Board". Cut out individual choice cards on page 2.
2. Velcro Assembly: Place rough velcro circles on the Choice Board spots and soft velcro on the backs of individual cards.

Targeted Protocols & Daily Response Tracking
Section
Response Protocol
Calming Protocol
For Over-stimulation / Dysregulation
- • Environment: Transition immediately to dim, quiet room or pop-up sensory tent.
- • Deep Pressure: Apply heavy lap pad, tight compression vest, or slow shoulder squeezes.
- • Verbal Prompting: Speak in ultra-low, rhythmic tones. Avoid complex or lengthy requests.
Alerting Protocol
For Lethargy / Low Engagement
- • Physical: Guided standing stretches, hand-clapping games, or sensory wall walks.
- • Tactile Cold: Apply fresh wet wipe to face/wrists or explore ice play tray.
- • Visual/Auditory: Fast-tempo drumbeats, highly rhythmic music, or primary-colored lights.

* Reaction Code Legend:
- S (Soothed / Engaged): Heart rate normal, focused, calm.
- O (Over-stimulated): Vocalizing, pacing, seeking avoidance.
- N (Neutral / No response): Little to no change in alert status.
Key Observation Questions:
- How long did self-regulation state persist?
- Was the transition seamless or dysregulated?
- Did the student physically point to choice board?
