Quest Facilitator Guide
Target Words: GO • MORE • STOP
Target Learners Pre-K – 1st Grade AAC / Emerging
Pacing / Format 20–30 min (Group / 1:1 Stations)
Communication Modes Speech, AAC, Signs, Core Mats
Primary Strategy Aided Language Input (ALgS)
Core Target Symbols & Semantic Function
GO
Initiates motion, race car drop, bubble stream start, or music trigger.
MORE
Requests continuation, another turn, extra bubbles, or another car launch.
STOP
Controls pacing, halts runaway toys, freezes dancers, and pauses action.
5-Step Cause-and-Effect Requesting Routine
1
Showcase & Tempt (Visual Sabotage) Hold the toy (e.g., bubble wand ready to dip, wind-up toy wound up) in line of sight. Build anticipation with excited facial cues ("Look what I have! Ready...").
2
The Golden Expectant Pause (Wait 5 to 8 Seconds) Lean in, raise eyebrows, open hands in questioning posture. Resist the urge to jump in verbally; allow student motor planning and communication time.
3
Aided Language Modeling (Point & State) Simultaneously point to target symbol ("GO!") on student board/slide while vocalizing target word. Model without requiring an immediate echo.
4
Immediate Reinforcement (Toy Activation) The instant student indicates intent (eye gaze, touch, switch hit, sign, verbal), immediately activate the toy: "You said GO! Watch it ZOOM!"
5
Planned Interruption (STOP & MORE Transition) Catch the car mid-track or hold hands over bubbles: "Oh, it stopped! Want MORE?" Student practices self-advocacy and iterative requesting.
Recommended Cause-and-Effect Toy Stations 1. Ramp Racer / Gravity Track • 2. Automatic Bubble Machine • 3. Spinning Light Top • 4. Wind-Up Crawlers
Session Duration: 25 min
