Part 1
Our Classroom Has Special Times
In our classroom, we do lots of wonderful things! We have circle time, play time, recess, and lunch. We also have Work Time. Work time is when we draw, write, read, and practice math.
Part 2
When My Teacher Gives Directions
When my teacher says: "Please get your pencil and start your worksheet," that is my cue! My teacher wants to help my brain grow big and strong. Listening right away shows respect and care.
Part 3
Why Do We Start Right Away?
When I wait or say "not now," work takes longer and I might feel worried later. But when I start right away, my job is done quickly and smoothly! Then I have plenty of time for free-choice, games, or recess.

My 4 Super Steps
I Can Do It!
When my teacher says it is time to work, I follow these 4 simple steps to be a classroom champion:

Stop & Freeze
I put down my toys, stop talking to my neighbor, and keep my hands still in my lap or at my desk.
My body is calm and ready.

Look & Listen
I turn my eyes to my teacher. I listen with my whole heart to hear what materials I need and what to do first.
My eyes and ears are on task.

Start Right Away
I pick up my pencil or open my book right away. I do not wander around or look at other friends' desks.
I begin number 1 immediately!

Ask If I am Stuck
If a question is hard or I do not know what to do, I take a breath, raise a quiet hand, and ask kindly for help.
Asking for help is super smart!
What If I Feel Tired or Frustrated?
Sometimes I don't feel like doing work, and that is okay to feel! Instead of crumpling my paper or complaining, I can whisper to myself: "I will try my best. Step by step, I can finish this!"
