Wrap-Up & Data Log
Phase 1: Sensorimotor Hand Activation (3 Mins)
Focus: Intrinsic Hand Strength & Web Space
Theraputty "Bead Dig & Pinch"
Student uses pincer grasp (thumb & index tip) to extract 4 hidden pony beads from medium-firm putty. Reinforces thumb opposition and web-space stability.
Bilateral Tug & Pull Warm-Up
Dual-hand isometric pull using a resistance loop to prime radial-ulnar separation and establish dominant manipulator vs. stabilizing hand roles.
Phase 2: "Fastener Safari Vest" Challenge (9 Mins)
Core Task
Student completes a simulated dressing station using an adaptive fastener board or tabletop button vest, working sequentially through 5 scored fastener trials:
Large Buttons (2x)
- Pinch edge of button with dominant index/thumb.
- Nondominant spreads buttonhole open.
- Push halfway, transfer, pull through.
Separating Zipper (1x)
- Stabilize bottom pin box firmly.
- Insert shank into slider until "click".
- Pull tab upward while anchoring jacket hem.
Heavy-Duty Snaps (2x)
- Align male/female stud visually.
- Apply thumb-to-thumb opposition press.
- Audit audible "pop" and tactile closure.
Graduated Cueing Hierarchy & Assistance Rubric
1. Independent (I)
Student initiates, aligns, and secures fastener with zero cues or tactile help.
2. Verbal / Visual (V)
1-2 verbal cues ("find the hole") or pointing gesture; no physical contact.
3. Minimal Assist (Min) *GOAL*
Therapist provides ≤25% physical guidance (e.g., stabilizing hem or orienting pin).
4. Mod / Max Assist (M)
50%+ hand-over-hand physical help to insert, feed, or force snap closed.

Session Fastener Trials Tracking
Criterion Benchmark
≥ 3 of 5 Trials at Min Assist or Better
Document prompt level, grasp pattern, and bilateral coordination during the 5 trials. Calculate session percentage to evaluate progress toward the 3/5 criterion.

Session Goal Met (≥ 3/5)? YES NO
Clinical Observations & Component Skills
Bilateral Integration
• Dominant manipulator hand used
• Stabilizing hand anchors garment
Pinch & Grip Strength
• Thumb IP flexion sustained
• Adequate force for snap closure
Visual Motor Control
• Visual tracking to button slot
• Aligns pin to slider box accurately
Therapist Qualitative Notes (postural stability, frustration tolerance, prompt fading response)...
Classroom & Home Carryover Cues (15-Second Routines)
Morning Arrival / Coat Routine
Prompt student to connect zipper pin box with hands at waist level; use the verbal cue: "Click the pin at the bottom, then pull up to your chin." Avoid zipping for the student unless requested after 2 attempts.
Dismissal & Restroom Dressing
Cue student to align pants snap with thumbs: "Thumbs together, squeeze until it pops!" For top buttons, allow buttoning from bottom-to-top to maintain direct visual line of sight.
