Compare
Finding the SAMES
When we compare, we look for things that are the same, alike, or shared.
Example:

Same Side

Step 2 Definitions
Contrast
Finding the DIFFERENCES
When we contrast, we look for things that are different or not the same.
Example:
"One game is old. The other is new."
Opposites
Think: How are they rivals? CONTRAST

Phase 1: Direct Instruction (10 mins)
Slide Deck Hook: Present the "Compare Clash" slideshow. Emphasize that *Compare* is looking for how things are twins (same), and *Contrast* is looking for differences (not same).
Scripted Support: "Think of it like choosing a game console. PlayStation and Xbox both play games. That's a comparison. But their controllers look different. That's a contrast!"
Phase 2: Assisted Reading (15 mins)
Supported Read: Hand out the "Compare Clash Story Passage." The text is written with heavy symbol/icon support and short, low-readability sentences.
Active Spotlight: Have students highlight comparison clue words (like, both, same) in cyan/blue and contrast clue words (but, different, unlike) in pink/red.
Phase 3: Guided Practice (15 mins)
Organizer Help: Lead the students through the "Compare Clash Organizer".
Scaffolding Accommodation: For non-writers, allow them to draw or paste pre-cut cards containing the key facts (e.g., "$5 entry", "Wear headset") into the respective boxes.

The first place is The Pixel Palace . It is a retro arcade. It is very cheap. It costs only $5 to enter! Inside, it is very noisy with beep sounds. You play games by pressing plastic buttons and moving joysticks on big wooden cabinets.
The second place is The VR Cave . It is a modern VR zone. It is costly. It costs $15 to enter. Inside, it is quiet because sound stays in headphones. You play by wearing a headset and moving your real body.
