Marcus stared at the plastic gear in his hand. It had snapped in half. He had spent three weeks building his custom drone, and tomorrow was the school science showcase. The Story Continues: Glue and Grit
The first glue failed immediately. The plastic gear fell apart as soon as Marcus let go. He frowned and rubbed his tired eyes, but he did not throw the broken piece away. Instead, he grabbed sandpaper and his strongest heavy-duty epoxy glue. He sat under his bright desk lamp, carefully sanding the broken edges to make them rough. "If I sand it first, the bond will be stronger," he thought. His wall clock ticked past 9:30 PM, but he did not look up from his work.

The Story Continues: The Windy Launch
The next morning, Marcus and his classmate Maya stood in the center of the school field. The drone’s glued gear had dried overnight. Maya looked up at the gray sky and felt the chilly wind pull at her hood. "Marcus, those wind gusts are over twenty miles per hour," Maya said, holding her clipboard tightly to her chest. "Maybe we should wait for the afternoon showcase. If it crashes now, all your hard work is gone."
Marcus turned on the controller. The drone’s small lights flashed bright green. "It is fine, Maya. I tested the motor in my garage. It has enough power to fight this wind," he said, keeping his eyes locked onto the screen. He pushed the throttle forward.
