Station Materials Checklist
Print & Lamination:
• Cut laminated Letter Match Strips (P.1)
• Cut laminated Sound Clip Cards (P.2)
• Dry-erase markers + felt eraser pads
Tactile Manipulatives:
• Standard or easy-squeeze spring clothespins
• Translucent colored counting chips / bingo markers
• Sensory rice or dried black bean tub (for hiding cards)
Tiered Differentiation & Prompt Hierarchy
Level 1: Errorless / Direct Model (High Support)
Cover incorrect letter choices with a sticky note so student only sees the target match. Pair with physical hand-over-hand clothespin placement and verbal model: "A says /a/ like apple."
Level 2: Field of 2 Choices (Moderate Support)
Fold card or mask one distractor choice to offer a field of 2. Use gestural prompt (pointing near target) and verbal reminder: "Find the letter that makes the /s/ sound."
Level 3: Full Field of 3 & Self-Check (Independent)
Student independently identifies target letter and clips match. Add a small green dot sticker on back of card behind correct choice so student flips to self-check.
Sensory Adaptations for Essential Skills
Motor Weakness: If clothespins trigger fatigue, use heavy magnet chips on a metal cookie sheet or roll playdough balls to squish onto the correct letter.
Sensory Seekers: Bury the uppercase letter cards in a sensory tub filled with kinetic sand or split peas. Students dig out a card, then clip its lowercase match.
IEP Goal Connection: Student will match uppercase/lowercase letters with 80% accuracy across 3 consecutive sessions.
