Steady Hands Club

An 8-session intensive behavioral intervention sequence for students in grades 3-5. It targets the reduction of destructive fidgeting behaviors (breaking pencils, tearing erasers), teaching students to utilize authorized, quiet sensory tools (squishy balls, desk velcro tape) that remain discreetly below desk level.

The Drift Zone

Introduces 'The Drift Zone' (attention drift and destructive hand fidgets), helping students recognize the urge to break tools or destroy erasers, and establishing the Steady Hands Club for Grades 3-5.

Glue to the Spot

Teaches the physical skill of 'Gluing to the Spot' in their visual base (keeping hands resting flat on thighs or on the desk) to block the impulse to break tools or destroy erasers for Grades 3-5.

Movement Options

Teaches verbal script options and protocols for requesting alternative designated quiet sensory tools (squishy ball or under-desk velcro) when hand movement is truly necessary for Grades 3-5.

Pace and Count

Teaches rules for using sensory tools responsibly, keeping them strictly below desk level, managing sensory tool limits, and returning tools to base on time for Grades 3-5.

Handling the No

Teaches emotional regulation and visual strategies for coping when a teacher says 'no' or 'not yet' to a request to use a designated sensory tool for Grades 3-5.

Eyes and Voice

Refines communication skills by training students to use direct eye contact and a firm, calm, and assertive voice when requesting sensory tools, while maintaining physical boundaries for Grades 3-5.

All Day Practice

Focuses on generalizing the replacement behavior (using quiet under-desk velcro or squishy ball below desk level) to other school settings like science labs, the cafeteria, and music rooms using visual tracker guides for Grades 3-5.
