Neurodiversity-Affirming Protocol
Adult Interaction Protocol
Show this visual menu when you notice early signs that the student may need support (e.g., increased body movement, pacing, whining, sharp vocalizations, hesitation, refusal, or transition blocks).
1. Show the Board Present the visual within the student's line of sight. Say only: “Show me what you need.” Avoid any other spoken prompts.
2. Pause & Process Wait for 5-10 seconds of silence. Allow processing time. Do not demand eye contact or verbal reinforcement.
Neurodiversity-Affirming Philosophy: This is a supportive communication tool—not a behavioral training chart, reward system, or toileting routine. We assume no behaviors are intentional or manipulative. When the student indicates a choice (Bathroom, Break, Help, Space, or More Time), honor it immediately to build confidence and establish a safe, reliable environment.

Core Purpose: Reduce communication frustration before dysregulation peaks. This logging helps identify if accidents or severe distress consistently happen during specific academic demands, assisting team clinical adjustments.
