"The IEP only works when it leaves the document. Our responsibility is not just writing accommodations. Our responsibility is ensuring scholars experience them consistently, intentionally, and effectively."
1. Post-IEP Communication & The Translation Challenge
Once an IEP meeting concludes, accommodation details cannot stay locked in the case management file. General education teachers need details simplified immediately. Consider the slide 22 challenge: when an IEP simply says "Extended Time," we must translate that into: How much additional time? Which assignments? Where does it happen? Who coordinates it?
Reflective Prompt: How will you systemize your communication with Gen Ed teachers post-IEP to ensure they know the explicit answers to the "how, when, where, and who" of any new accommodation?
2. Shifting From Compliance to Fidelity
Compliance (The "Done" Mentality)
Focuses strictly on the administrative presence of the support. "Was the tool handed to the scholar?"
Fidelity (The "Impact" Mentality)
Focuses on execution quality and regular alignment. "Was it provided correctly, consistently, and intentionally?"
Reflective Prompt: Describe a time when a scholar received their designated accommodation technically (compliance), but it failed to yield learning access. What adjustments would secure true fidelity?

3. Working with Your SEC to Monitor Implementation
As a Case Manager, you and the Special Education Coordinator (SEC) co-own tracking teacher fidelity. Class observations, scholar interviews, and work-sample reviews are vital co-monitoring tactics to ensure accommodations never stay isolated with you.
Reflective Prompt: What specific weekly monitoring structure will you establish with your SEC to check on student accommodation fidelity in Gen Ed classes?
4. Partnering with Leaders for Supportive Coaching
Use Coaching Language instead of Punitive Statements: "I noticed this accommodation is listed for this scholar. Let's discuss what implementation looks like in your classroom, explore the active barriers, and identify support to make it routine."
Reflective Prompt: How will you collaborate with your DCI or Principal to support a teacher who consistently struggles to build scaffolds into their daily lesson plans?
