Emotion Bingo ABA Lesson Plan
Low-Receptive Language Adaptation for Nonverbal & Emergent Communicators
30–35 Minutes
2–4 Students (1:1 or 2:1 Support)
Target Learner Profile & Communication Supports:
Chronological Age: 11–12 years (6th Grade). Receptive language: 1–3 word concrete verbal directions. Expressive mode: PECS, AAC speech-generating apps (TouchChat/Proloquo), pointing, or single-word vocal approximations. High need for visual schedules, "First/Then" contingencies, and token reinforcement systems.
IEP Goal 1: Receptive Emotion ID
Given a field of 3 emotion cards or the 3x3 Bingo board and the Discriminative Stimulus (SD) "Touch [Emotion]" or "Match [Emotion]", student will select the correct target face with 80% independent accuracy across 3 consecutive sessions.
IEP Goal 2: Turn-Taking & Waiting
Given a visual "Wait" or "Peer's Turn" card, student will maintain safe body/hands and wait for peer to complete turn for up to 15–20 seconds in 4 out of 5 group opportunities without grabbing materials.
Required ABA Materials:
• 3x3 Bingo Boards & Large Bingo Chips • Individual 5-Token Boards • "My Turn / Your Turn" Visual Paddle • High-Preference Tangible Reinforcers
ABA Session Pacing (30–35 Minutes) Structured Discrete Blocks

Gentle hand-under-hand or elbow guidance to touch the target card. Provide immediate reinforcement.
4-Step Error Correction Protocol (No Verbal "No" / Keep Neutral):
Step 1 (Block): Block incorrect reach neutrally without saying "No."
Step 2 (Prompt): Immediately provide immediate gestural or model prompt to correct card.

ABA Data Sheet
Target Behaviors & Function-Based ABA Interventions
| Observed Behavior | Hypothesized Function | Antecedent / Prevention Strategy | Consequence / Differential Reinforcement |
|---|
| Grabbing Chips / Token Out of Turn | Tangible / Impulsivity | Place chips out of reach with adult; provide fidget toy for non-working hand. | Block grab neutrally. Hand "Wait" visual. Deliver token for 5 seconds quiet hands (DRO). |
| Pushing Board / Head on Desk | Escape / High Task Demand | Reduce field to 2 choices; provide high-density reinforcement (token every 1 trial). | Prompt functional communication: "Touch break." Complete 1 errorless trial, then 30-sec break. |
| Perseverating on Free Space | Automatic / Rigid Routine | Cover Free Space with opaque tape or pre-cover with chip prior to session. | Redirect with quick motor prompt: "Look here. Touch angry." |
