The Mid-Flight Drift
Leo forced himself to start. He wrote one sentence. But then... "Space Dust" hit his cockpit.
"Ooh, look, a cool mechanical pencil! I should click it 45 times. Wait, what was that noise outside? Let me check the window. Oh, my dog is cute. What was I writing again?"
The Problem: Distraction and course deviation. Once we get over the start, keeping our attention locked on the target is a hard battle.

The Problem: Frustration overload. When a task gets hard or boring, the brain's "fight or flight" reflex engages. We want to destroy or escape the work.

PHASE 1

Overcoming initiation freeze. Learn how to crush giant tasks into micro-steps and start in 5 seconds.
PHASE 2
Mid-Flight
Maintaining total lock. Set up deflector shields against distractors and track focus fuel gauges.
PHASE 3
Re-Entry
Managing frustration storms. Learn to navigate roadblock asteroids and initiate immediate manual override actions.

Phase 1: Pre-Launch Sequence
TACTICAL PROCEDURES
OBJECTIVE: OVERCOME INITIATION FREEZE
The 5-Second Launch
How do space agencies launch a multi-ton, heavy metal machine into the sky? They do not sit around waiting to "feel like it." They use a mechanical launch sequence.

Asteroid Crushing (Chunking)
Break the huge, scary task into 3 tiny, simple steps. Your only job is the first microscopic step (e.g., "Write name on paper").

5-4-3-2-1 Countdown
Count down aloud: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... IGNITION! On 1, move your hands to touch the paper, pencil, or computer. Don't let your brain object.
The first 15 seconds of any task are the hardest. Once you launch, it gets easier! 05 // 08
Phase 2: Mid-Flight Course Lock

Deflector Shields
Identify "Space Dust" (distractions) and raise shields before taking off. Lock away phones, close other tabs, and clear everything off your desk except what you need right now.

Fuel Gauge Tracking
Set a short, visual countdown timer (e.g., 15 minutes). Work strictly until the fuel runs out, then take a scheduled, controlled 3-minute pit stop to refuel.

Raise the Deflector Shields
Space contains millions of floating particles. If a spaceship didn't have protective force fields, it would be torn apart! Raise your attention shields to stay safe.

Phase 3: Re-Entry Maneuvers

OBJECTIVE: DEFUSE RE-ENTRY FRUSTRATION
Emergency Roadblock Dodge
A commander doesn't crash their entire ship into an asteroid just because they hit a roadblock. They maneuver around it and keep going!

Maneuver: Skip & Return
When you hit a hard question, write a small ☄️ (Asteroid icon) next to it and immediately skip it! Keep your momentum going and solve it at the very end.

Send an SOS Signal
If you get truly stuck, don't break down or yell. Signal a teacher, facilitator, or parent using a pre-planned visual signal (like placing an orange card or SOS flag next to your paper).
Remember, hitting a roadblock is normal! Good pilots plan for them. 07 // 08

01 Pre-Flight Briefing: Opening Hook (5 mins)
Teacher Script
"Today, we are changing your job title. You're no longer just a student. You are a Task Commander, piloting an elite spacecraft. Every time a teacher or parent gives you an assignment, it isn't just work—it's a mission target in space. Some missions are easy, like passing a small asteroid. But other missions look like a giant 10-mile-wide threat that freezes your controls. Today, we're installing three tools to help you fly through any mission."
02 Guided Social Narrative Review (15 mins)
Open the Task Commander Slides. Walk through Leo's story. For slides 2, 3, and 4, ask the following processing questions to build metacognitive awareness.

When you hit a confusing or boring part of the task, you do not crash. You execute a Roadblock Dodge. Answer these questions to customize your backup flight plans:

Set Your Fuel Gauge & Pit Stop Rewards
