Objective
Students will learn to collect, evaluate, and set improvement goals based on their performance in timed academic tasks.

Prep: 10 Minutes
- Review lesson plan and all supporting materials.
- Print Fluency Data Sheets for each student.
- Ensure you have a timer readily available.
- Set up projector for the Slide Deck.

Introduction & Warm-Up

- Begin by asking students about the importance of practice and tracking progress.
- Introduce the concept of fluency and how collecting data can help them improve.
- Briefly explain the plan for the session using the Fluency Facts Slide Deck (Slides 1-2).

Understanding Fluency Data
10 Mins
- Present Fluency Facts Slide Deck (Slides 3-5) to explain what fluency is and how data helps.
- Distribute the Fluency Data Sheet Worksheet.
- Guide students through the sections: 'Attempt', 'Time', 'Correct Answers', 'Errors', 'WPM/PPM', and 'Goal'.
- Emphasize that fluency is a balance of accuracy and speed.

Timed Drills Activity
10 Mins
- Transition to the Timed Drills Activity.
- Explain the skill being practiced (e.g., math facts or sight words).
- Conduct the first timed drill. Students record 'Time' and 'Correct Answers'.
- Guide students to calculate their 'WPM/PPM' (Words/Problems Per Minute).
- Discuss results, highlighting the "power of yet" and improvement over attempts.

Goal Setting & Reflection

- Have students look at their first data point and set a realistic, achievable goal for Attempt 2.
- Discuss specific strategies (e.g., focusing on accuracy, skipping hard ones to come back).
- Reflection questions:
- "What did you learn about tracking your progress today?"
- "How can collecting data help you in other subjects?"

Fluency means doing something well, without much effort, and at a good speed.

Listen Carefully
Your teacher will tell you which skill we are practicing today (like multiplication or sight words).

The Timer Starts
When you hear "GO!", start working. Be fast, but be careful!

Time's Up!
When you hear "STOP!", immediately put your pencil down.

Collect Your Data
Count your correct answers. Write the Time and Correct Answers on your sheet.

Calculate Your Score
Work with your teacher to find your WPM/PPM (Words or Problems Per Minute).

Review and Reflect
Look at your data. What do you notice? How can you improve for Attempt #2?

Set a Goal
Pick a realistic target for your next try and write it in the Goal box!
