Station Master Teacher Guide Pedagogical Guide
Station Master
Classroom-ready systems for early childhood rotation & differentiation
Grade 1 Foundations
Targeted Focus
Small, multi-level student groups target specific academic benchmarks simultaneously.
Peer Learning
Consistent structures foster independence, communication, and mutual student support.
Active Inquiry
Hands-on, sensory materials ensure cognitive engagement is prioritized over seatwork.
Physical Station Setup & Map
Arrange your classroom into four distinct zones. Use visual boundaries (rugs, bookshelves, tables) to minimize distraction and maximize independent exploration.
Station 1 (Word Safari): Near writing/library rug. Quiet area.
Station 2 (Number Lab): Math manipulative cabinet table.
Station 3 (Crafty Copy): Low-sensory table near fine motor tools.
Station 4 (Discovery Zone): Wet-dry/science shelf area. Easy cleanup.

Differentiated Grouping Strategy
To build confidence and eliminate social comparison, groups are organized around non-stigmatizing celestial symbols. Match your roster based on current performance data.
Star Group (Support / Emergent)
Level 1
Focuses on concrete, high-scaffold materials. Phonics targets isolated phonemes; Math focuses on quantities within 5-10; Writing emphasizes sensory finger tracing and motor planning.
Moon Group (Core / On-Level)
Level 2
Aligned directly with Grade 1 standard benchmarks. Phonics targets regular CVC word building/blending; Math targets operations within 10; Writing focuses on complete sentences.
Sun Group (Challenge / Advanced)
Level 3
Requires higher-order synthesis and explanation. Phonics focuses on consonant clusters and decodable context; Math works with missing addends within 20; Writing centers on creative composition.

Formative Assessment Rubrics
Station Focus ⭐️ Star (Emergent) 🌙 Moon (Proficient) ☀️ Sun (Exceeds) Phonics & Reading Identifies beginning consonant sounds; needs support blending VC syllables. Blends CVC words independently; recognizes level-one sight words. Decodes CCVC patterns and reads simple sentences with fluency. Math Foundations Counts up to 10 with 1:1 correspondence; identifies subitizing cards. Adds and subtracts within 10 using touch-points/drawings. Demonstrates missing-addend mastery and solves operations to 20. Writing & Fine Motor Draws paths within lines; forms primary strokes with moderate hand strain. Transcribes short sentences with correct spacing and capital letters. Composes an original sentence; shows mature pincher grip control. Science & Inquiry Sorts items correctly by one simple attribute (e.g., color). Sorts items by multiple properties; explains reasoning. Predicts properties (magnetic, buoyancy); tests and logs hypotheses.
Classroom Observation Record
Use during live rotations. Note group (⭐️/🌙/☀️) and check off (✓) as independence/accuracy is demonstrated.
