Commented [VD2]: Circle re- in our vocab word, “restore.” Choral read definition and from the text
Commented [VD3]: You did a great job with learning long vs. short vowel sounds yesterday. Remember, I know you know your letters - this is not about teaching A,E,I,O,U, it is about learning the names of long vs short vowel sounds so we can analyze words like “terminability” and “bioluminescent.” Let’s read through the chart again to remember the correct names of the sounds (Long A vs Short A, etc.)
Commented [VD4]: Read these words quietly at your seat to hear the vowel sound. Then write if it is long or short. For #6 write your name, underline a vowel, and write if it is long or short. Use the chart to help you.

How Living Things Thrive in Earth’s Habitats
Elena Cruz
Across our planet, every organism lives in a special place called a 12
habitat. A habitat provides everything a creature needs to survive, including 23
food, clean water, and safe shelter. Together, living plants, animals, 33
and nonliving things like rocks and sunlight make up an ecosystem. 44
Earth has many different ecosystems, from frozen arctic tundra to warm 55
rainforests. Healthy ecosystems have high biodiversity, which means they 65
are filled with many kinds of life. All living things in 76
an ecosystem are interdependent. For example, plants make energy from the 87
sun, herbivores eat the plants, and predators help keep animal populations 98
balanced. When one part of a habitat is harmed, other creatures 109
suffer too. Pollution, deforestation, and wildfires can damage these vital 119
natural homes. Today, scientists and young volunteers work to restore damaged 130
wetlands and plant native trees. By protecting habitats, we help keep 141
our whole planet healthy, diverse, and full of life for the 152
future. Every small action helps protect Earth’s amazing web of life. 163
Cold Read Words Per Minute _________
Hot Read Words Per Minute _________

b. They never interact with other plants or animals
c. They can survive completely alone without their habitat
Commented [VD5]: (Watch the model of this word.) Today’s word is RECOVER. Repeat after me: RECOVER (kids say recover)
Recover has 3 syllables, so draw 3 blanks.
I will say the first syllable out loud and you write just that one. (teacher says the syllable sound, not individual letters)
RE
Great job, now the second syllable is (teacher says) COV
And the last one is (teacher says) ER
Great job, who would like to share the spelling with us?
Kids share the spelling and teacher shows the word on the board
Commented [VD6]: Now, let’s put all of that word practice together by reading this text aloud. First, repeat these word preview words after me: (read list, kids repeat)
Commented [VD7]: Our habits are improving - we are more consistently all reading aloud to get this practice in. When I say go, everyone read aloud for one minute. Go! (1 min later) Stop! Circle and count your last word. Mark it on your paper for the cold read. (Repeat for hot)
Commented [VD8]: A (Underline your evidence)
