CYBER ARCADE QUEST // MISSION VICTORY New High Score Achieved!

"In paragraph 3, city crows solve problems when they..."

Struggle: Reading comprehension and context clues (Page 2). Tip

Have struggling students use a yellow highlighter to find the word "resourceful" in Paragraph 3. Tell them: "Read the whole sentence before and after it. What did the crows just do that was so smart?"

Math Packet: 35–45 Mins

Sub Cheat Sheet: Codebreaker Math

Instant math answers and targeted math scaffolds for third-grade learners.

Teacher Reference Only

Math Master Solutions Key (Both Sides)

Quick Check

Side A Solutions (Front)

Puzzle 1 (Symbols): 🔍 = 8 | 🔑 = 3 | 🐾 = 5 | 🎒 = 7

Master Code Sum: 8 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 23

Puzzle 2 (Target Hubs):

• Hub ×4: 2×4=8, 5×4=20, 7×4=28, 3×4=12, 6×4=24, 9×4=36
• Hub ×3: 4×3=12, 6×3=18, 8×3=24, 5×3=15, 7×3=21, 9×3=27

Puzzle 3 (Riddle): "IT HAD TOO MANY PROBLEMS!" B=12, A=14, I=16, D=18, T=21, O=24, M=25, R=27, L=28, H=30, N=32, P=35, E=36, S=40, Y=42

Puzzle 4 (Signs): 6 × 4 = 24 | 15 − 7 = 8 | 28 + 14 = 42 | 9 × 5 = 45

Side B Solutions (Back)

Mission 1 (Laser Maze Path):

Correct path of 4s: 8 → 16 → 24 → 32 → 20 → 28 → 40 → 12 → 36 → 4 (EXIT). (Every other number is not in the 4 times table).

Mission 2 (Balance Scales):

• Scale A: 25 = 17 + 8

• Scale B: (6 × 5 = 30) = 10 + 20

• Scale C: (4 × 8 = 32) = 20 + 12

• Scale D: 50 = 5 × 10

Mission 3 (Mystery Numbers):

• Mystery #1: 24 (Even, multiple of 4, 2+4=6)

• Mystery #2: 35 (Odd, multiple of 5, ends in 5)

Mission 4: Check that student's multiplication facts equal their chosen letters.

Math Scaffolds & Fixes (For the 50% Who Might Struggle)

Struggle: "I don't understand how to start Puzzle 1 (Picture Algebra)." Strategy

Guide them to Clue 1 only: "Two of the exact same magnifying glasses equal 16. What number plus itself equals 16?" Once they write 8, show them that every magnifying glass on the page is now an 8! Now look at Clue 2: "8 times what equals 24?"

Struggle: Weak multiplication facts (especially 6s, 7s, 8s in Puzzle 3). Whiteboard Hack

Write a skip-counting number line on the front board for 3s, 4s, and 6s:
3s: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 | 4s: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40
Tell students: "Use your finger to count along the chain!" This allows them to succeed on the puzzle independently without getting blocked.

Struggle: Laser Maze on Side B (Getting lost or picking odd numbers). Rule of Thumb

Remind the room: "Every single multiple of 4 is an EVEN number! If a box ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, it is a laser trap—never step on an odd number!" This instantly cuts their choices in half!

Pro Sub Tip: Have students work in pairs on Side A, then challenge each other individually on Side B.

No Prep Required

Scenario 2: Accidental Bump in Hallway Red Path: Shoving the person back

Write a calm de-escalation response you could use instead:

Scenario 3: Feeling Completely Overwhelmed by Classwork Red Path: Crumpling the worksheet & putting head down

Write how you can ask for help or take a 1-minute brain pause:

Flight Commander Calm Flight Pledge

"I promise to monitor my internal dashboard sensors today. When my warning lights turn Yellow, I will pause my thrusters, take 3 deep breaths, and make a safe, respectful choice."

Commander Signature:

Flight Status: READY FOR FLIGHT

MISSION CONTROL DASHBOARD // MISSION COMPLETE Keep Calm & Maintain Orbit!

Mars Rescue Mission Patch Design (Early Finisher) Draw & Name Your Emblem

Design the official mission badge for your rover crew. Include your callsign, the planet Mars, and your rescue motto!

MARS ROVER RESCUE // MISSION COMPLETE Turn In Your Completed Flight Log!

Action Twist

Sound Effect Hook (Say Aloud with Drama):

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Red alert! Your elbow hit the laser! Alarms are screaming and guards are running. You have two seconds to pick: are you dropping purple smoke or sliding down the laundry chute? Choose one and write your escape move!"

Step 5 Riddle Answer:

Riddle: "Hands but cannot clap, face but no eyes..." → ANSWER: CLOCK (or Watch)

Hint for Stuck Students: "Look at the wall in our classroom. It tells time and has two ticking hands!"

Phase 4: Official Mission Debrief (Exemplar Solution Model)

Model for Board

Write this model on the whiteboard if students need visual support. Remind them they are telling the whole story from start to finish:

1. First, I climbed onto the roof and slipped through the skylight with my rope.

2. Next, I found the locked safe and grabbed the golden chip quietly.

3. Suddenly, my elbow touched a red laser and loud alarms started screaming!

4. Finally, I dropped a purple smoke bomb, unlocked the gate with 'CLOCK', and reached the helicopter.

Substitute Intervention Toolbox (Handling Hesitation)

The "Head Down" Refuser:

Don't force writing yet. Say: "You don't have to write yet. Just circle the tool you would pick." Once circled, ask them to say one sentence aloud.

The Spelling Paralyzed:

Say: "Secret codes don't need perfect spelling! Sound it out. As long as HQ can read it, you pass the test."

Early Finishers (Fast Kids):

Challenge them to turn their paper over and draw a labeled map/blueprint of the laser tower and escape helicopter.
