Educational Intervention Overview
This guide supports students who absentmindedly lift their shirts. It outlines respectful, non-verbal cues and structured positive reinforcement to teach body privacy, ensuring she is supported without being publicly singled out.
1. Using the Social Story
Interactive Binder: Read the binder story together 1-2 times daily. Have the student match the Velcro tokens to secure attention and retention.
Pocket Booklet: Assemble the foldable guide and place it in her pocket, folder, or backpack. Refer to it quietly before transitions.
2. Positive Reinforcement
Praise Smart Choices: Offer positive praise during the day when she keeps her shirt down (e.g., "I love how comfortable and ready to learn you are!" ).
Star Tracker: Color a star in the booklet tracker at mid-day and end-of-day for maintaining shirt down. Work toward an agreed-upon sensory break or privilege.
Low-Key Cueing & Prompt Hierarchy
Use the least-intrusive prompt level first to promote self-monitoring and independent behavior. Avoid drawing negative attention from peers.
Level 1: Visual
Point to the printed Visual Desk Card or show the Lanyard Card silently while catching her eye.
Level 2: Indirect
Use a gentle inquiry: "Let's check our clothes!" or "Are you cozy and warm?" to prompt her to self-correct.
Level 3: Direct
Deliver a quiet, direct instruction: "[Name], pull shirt down." Hand her a small tactile fidget if her hands need sensory input.
