This lesson focuses on identifying common community signs in four categories: Safety, Public Buildings, Transportation, and Stores. It is designed for students with intellectual disabilities and low reading levels using realistic visual supports.

- Identify 8 common community signs by shape and icon.
- Connect specific signs to functional needs (e.g., finding food).
- Recognize safety signs that require immediate action.

Instructional Steps
5 Mins
Warm Up
Discuss why signs are important. Ask: "How do you know where to go in the grocery store?" Show the "Why we need signs" slide.
20 Mins
Sign Spotting with Guided Notes
Go through the Sign Spotter Slides. For each sign:
- Show the sign. Ask students to identify the shape (e.g., octagon, rectangle) and color.
- Direct students to the corresponding number on the Guided Notes.
- Model circling the matching sign on the notes.
- Wait for all students to find and circle before moving to the next slide.

Application Practice
Students complete My Sign Guide Worksheet. This focuses on functional application (e.g., "Where do I go if I am hungry?"). Assist students in interpreting the icons as needed.

Sign Success
Briefly review the four categories. Administer the Exit Ticket as students prepare to leave.
