1. MY CREATIVE CHANNELS (HOW I WORK)
During the independent writing block, I can channel my ideas through any of these drafting choices. I will select my daily formats before we begin.
Classic Journal
Drafting using physical notebooks, blank sketchbooks, or gel pens. Perfect for visual mind-maps and handwriting.
Tech Explorer
Typing drafts directly on my Chromebook. Allows focus on word-flow, storytelling, or typing out story beats.
Voice Architect
Dictating my initial creative ideas using speech-to-text tools, followed by silent spelling and editing adjustments.
2. MY THREE CREATIVE HABITS
Launch Transition (After-Lunch Focus) Score: 1 - 3
I enter class calmly after lunch, take out my creative materials, choose my channel, and begin writing within 2 minutes of the bell.
Respectful Studio Voice (No Call-Outs) Score: 1 - 3
I save my ideas for my document, keep a quiet "studio volume," and raise my hand to collaborate or ask the teacher questions.
Drafting Flow (Writing Engagement) Score: 1 - 3
I keep my momentum going by draft writing, editing, or outlining using my chosen daily tool for the full block.
HOW I EARN POINTS EACH DAY:
3 Pts: Flow Master (Independent) 2 Pts: On Track (1 prompt needed) 1 Pt: Needs Spark (Help needed)
"We agree to co-create a quiet, focused environment where creativity thrives. We will choose our tool, respect each other's flow, and celebrate daily efforts!"

Structured Choice Intervention for Transition & Writing Avoidance

Target Student Profile Creative 6th Grader • After-Lunch Transitions • Call-Outs & Writing Avoidance
Intervention Basis Choice & Self-Regulation
1. THE LAUNCH TRANSITION RITUAL (First 2 Minutes)
A. The "Soft Landing" Entrance
Avoid immediate academic demands. Greet student at the door with a positive, personal check-in (e.g., "Good to see you, Creator! Excited to see what you draft today.").
B. Proactive Choice-Priming
Hand student the Creator's Log immediately. Prompt choice: "Which channel are you unlocking today? Pen, Tech, or Voice?" Promotes instant active buy-in.
2. MANAGING & SCAFFOLDING THE CREATIVE CHANNELS
✍️
Classic Journal
Designate a dedicated notebook for "free drafts" (zero spelling grading initially). Allow creative margins for sketching or prompt them to write just "3 creative sentences" to build initial momentum.
💻
Tech Explorer
Keep Google Docs cleanly focused. Limit open tabs strictly to writing document and a graphic organizer. Use a visual timer beside student to encourage flow sessions.
🎙️
Voice Architect
Set student in a designated "Studio Corner" wearing headphones. Allow speech-to-text dictation of ideas for 5 minutes, followed by silent typing adjustments using a word bank.
3. 3-MINUTE DAILY CHECK-IN & REFLECTIVE COLLABORATION
A. Reflective Self-Rating
At block end, student records self-score (S: __). Ask: "How do you rate your focus today?" Student explains self-rating first to build metacognitive control.
B. Handling Score Gaps
If rating discrepancy occurs, maintain non-judgmental facts: "I noticed you needed two hand-signals to stay on task, which aligns with 2 points. Let's aim for 3 tomorrow!"
QUICK TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Q: Student continues calling out during tasks.
Action: Praise nearby peers showing focused "Studio Volume." Use the "Sticky Note Draft" rule: write thoughts immediately onto a sticky note rather than sharing loudly.
Q: Refuses to write even after choosing channels.
Action: Apply "First-Then": "Write/say 5 words first, then you can sketch for 2 minutes." Or utilize the Voice Architect format to speak ideas freely before penning.
