The Problem:
The computer is a super-fast listener , but it doesn't know when to take a breath or stop!
The Solution:
We must use our Voice Pilot Commands to tell it when to stop.

Learning Objective
Students will understand that speech recognition software is literal and requires specific verbal commands to end sentences. By the end of this lesson, students will successfully verbalize the command "period" at the conclusion of spoken statements.
Key Vocabulary
Dictation: Speaking out loud so a computer can type your words.
Command: A "secret code" word that tells the computer to do something special.
Run-on: A long line of words that never stops.
Troubleshooting
Computer types "period": If the software writes the word instead of the dot, ensure the student pauses slightly before and after saying the command.
Enunciation: Remind students to speak "like a robot" (clearly and at a steady pace).
The Training Flight Plan

Pre-Flight Check (Hook)
Read the "Ten Mile Sentence" on the slides as fast as you can without breathing. Ask students why it was hard to understand. Introduce the need for "Air Traffic Control" (Punctuation).

Voice Activation (Direct Instruction)
Model the "Period" command. Show how saying "I like cats period" becomes "I like cats." vs. "I like cats period" becoming "I like cats period". Emphasize the natural pause.

Co-Pilot Practice (Guided Practice)
Use the Practice Mode slides. Have the whole class say the sentence together, shouting the command "PERIOD!" together. Gradually lower voices to a normal speaking volume.
Customizing the Flight
For Emerging Speakers:
Use physical hand signals (a fist for period) to accompany the verbal command to provide a multi-sensory anchor.
For Advanced Pilots:
Ask them to dictate two related sentences, focusing on the capitalization of the second sentence that happens automatically after the period command.
Safety First: Ensure microphones are positioned 1-2 inches from the mouth.
