Executive Reset Protocol
Personal Action Plan Middle School EF Support
1. My Pre-Negotiated Signals
Establish these agreements with your teacher beforehand so breaks are silent, respected, and automatic.
Signal Method
[ ] Flip Desk Card
[ ] Two-finger desk tap
[ ] Quiet sticky note pass
Approved Zone
[ ] Classroom calm corner
[ ] Hallway water fountain
[ ] At desk (head rest/stretch)
Timer Device
[ ] Vibrating wristwatch
[ ] Digital desk cube
[ ] 3-minute sand timer
2. The "Bookmark" Re-Entry Method
Brain Science
Executive fatigue makes starting the hardest part. Leaving a "bookmark" eliminates restart friction.
Step A • Freeze Frame
Leave a Trail
Before getting up, place a sticky note or finger pointing to the exact math problem or sentence you were on.
Step B • Write 3 Words
Prime the Pump
Scribble the very next micro-action: e.g., "Multiply row 2" or "Find quote on page 14."
Step C • Touchdown
Zero Thinking
When you sit down, execute only those 3 words. Completing one tiny piece jumpstarts momentum instantly.
3. When Should I Call a Break?
GREEN: Effort Mode
Slightly hard, but progressing. Keep rolling. No break needed.
YELLOW: Friction Mode
Rereading lines 3 times, restless leg, zoning out. Take 2-min micro reset.
RED: Overload Mode
Frustration spike, brain locked. Take 4-min sensory & box-breathing reset.
Student & Teacher Compact
"I use breaks to regain control of my attention. I signal calmly, monitor my timer, and return ready for my next step."
