A professional development session equipping educators with blueprint-inspired strategies to scaffold executive functioning for students with ADHD, focusing on Working Memory, Organization, and Time Management.
For ADHD, if an object is out of sight, it stops existing. If it requires more than 2 friction steps to organize, it gets stuffed or thrown away. We must reduce organized friction to zero.
A Desk Parking Lots
Tape boundaries directly on the student's desk indicating zones: Laptop, Journal, Visual Agenda, and "Active Task" focus space.
B The Dumping Zone
Utilize a singular "Inbox Bucket" or designated basket where all incoming papers are placed immediately, rather than forcing categorization in binders mid-class.
C Monochromatic Folders
Match colors rigorously. Red folder is always Math, blue folder is English, yellow is Science. Match the color of slide backgrounds to the color of the physical folder.

Scenario Blueprint
The Desk Black Hole
Maya (ADHD) has a desk stuffed with crumpled worksheets, pencil shavings, a half-eaten snack, and four different notebooks. When asked to find her writing rubric, she starts digging frantically, gets overwhelmed, and shuts down completely.
Total Search Time: 8 minutes. Focus is lost for the entire writing workshop.
Redesign Prompt for Group
How do we structure Maya's workspace to protect her emotional bandwidth and attention?
What physical layout structures should be added inside her desk?
What routine (or cue) should we run daily before writing workshop starts?
Where should reference tools (like rubrics) physically live?
DISCUSSION TIME: 5 MINUTES EMPOWER BY DESIGN
MODULE 3: TIME RECONSTRUCTION SLIDE 07/08
Time Deficits & Scaffolds
Students with ADHD live in two timeframes: "Now" and "Not Now." This phenomenon, known as time-blindness, prevents accurate forecasting. We must make time visible and tactile.
01 Duration Prediction
Have students actively guess: "How many minutes will this math page take?" Record their predictions and compare them with the actual timer. This calibrates internal pacing over time.
02 Visual Timers
Never just state "You have ten minutes." Use visual clocks (where color slice disappears) or glowing progress bars that give analog shape and volume to passing minutes.
03 Transition Trackers
Routines need step checklists. "The Transition Blueprint: 1. Put away binder. 2. Push in chair. 3. Retrieve reading folder." Show and practice transition steps as physical drills.
TIME ESTIMATION & EXECUTION TACTIC: RECONSTRUCT TIME VISUALLY
CONCLUSION // PUNCH LIST SLIDE 08/08
Your 30-Day Launch Plan
Do not build every scaffold simultaneously. Select one high-impact infrastructure area and stabilize it over 30 days before moving to the next.
Workbook Activation
Flip to Sheet 1 in your Executive Architects Handout. You will now blueprint your personal school environment, selecting 3 core strategies to build first.
Week 2: Map out "desk parking lots" and transition dumping boxes.
Week 3: Anchor time visualizers and execute daily duration prediction drills.
