AAC Modeling Tip
Model the icon press on your own device first. Let the student observe without pressure to copy immediately.
Tips
-
Wait Time: Model and wait 5-10 seconds. Don't press for a response immediately.
-
Symbol Use: Use the physical flashcards alongside the AAC device to build the link.
-
Acknowledge: If they hit the wrong icon, say: "Oh, sad? I see happy!" and point to the face.
Support
High Support
Focus only on "Happy" first. Use physical hand-over-hand modeling on the device if needed.
Low Support
Ask the student to tell you about a time they felt "Angry" using their device.
