Social-Emotional Supports
Allow animal archetypes as a protective shield to bypass standard social performance anxiety.
Physical "Barnyard Babble" cards serve as high-utility tactile objects to regulate verbal turn-taking.
Reward process, collaboration, and cooperative teamwork over fast task execution.
Cognitive & Literacy Scaffolds
Emphasize high-scaffold sentence frame templates heavily on Day 3's skill pitch.
Classroom rallying cry features predictable, repeating acoustic tracks to boost memorization.
Color-coded indicators on slides provide clear graphic organizers for direct thematic mapping.
Review Time Best Practices (10-Min Block):
This critical segment allows students with IEP objectives in processing, writing, or reading comprehension to receive immediate, direct, individualized teacher feedback before leaving the room. Have peers swap worksheets to practice supportive, empathetic peer feedback matching their selected animal archetypes (e.g., Clover archetypes provide encouraging notes; Benjamin archetypes look for accurate mechanics).
Teacher Diagnostic Observation Checklist:
Check for: 1) Student capability to complete sentence starters, 2) Comprehension of character archetypes, and 3) Level of verbal engagement with discussion cards. This acts as an organic, non-threatening baseline of ELA skills.

DAY 2 The Seven Commandments
Our Classroom Rules
Rules of the Animal Farm:

Our Coalition Rules:
Today we design five unchangeable classroom rules (commandments).
How do we treat each other?
What happens when we disagree?
How do we share our voice?

Using highly persuasive speech, selective facts, and emotional claims to convince an audience of a specific idea.
In Animal Farm, Squealer the pig is a master communicator. He could convince the other animals that black was white.
Your Turn: The Skill Pitch
Use the power of persuasion to pitch your animal superpower to the classroom coalition!
"My archetype is the _________________ because I am extremely _________________."
"When my team faces a hard challenge, I am the one who will _________________."
Refer to Section 3 of your student worksheet for templates and word banks. 10-Min Review starts at the chime!

WEEK 1 RECONCILIATION
Name: _______________________
Date: _____________
Animal Group: ________
The Context: To establish a fair classroom coalition, we must manage our resources mathematically. In Animal Farm , Squealer controls the books, but we will count the rations ourselves! Complete these review tasks.
1 TASK 1: The Leg-to-Animal Ratio
The animal constitution states: "Four legs good, two legs bad." Let's find the physical leg counts.
Problem 1.1: In the lower field, there are 12 Sheep (4 legs each) and 8 Chickens (2 legs each).
A) Total Sheep Legs:
12 sheep × 4 = ______ legs
B) Total Chicken Legs:
8 chickens × 2 = ______ legs
C) Write the simplified fraction ratio of Sheep Legs to Chicken Legs:
2 TASK 2: Land Allocation & Pasture Fractions
The assembly votes to set aside exactly \(\frac{1}{5}\) of the pasture as a retirement field. The total pasture is 180 acres.
Problem 2.1: How many acres of land are set aside for the retirement field? (Calculate \(\frac{1}{5}\) of 180)
Problem 2.2: How many acres of land remain for active farming crops? (Subtract from total 180 acres)

3 TASK 3: Squealer's Percentage Shifts
Squealer announces that to secure food stores for the winter, daily grain rations must be reduced.
Problem 3.1: The pig baseline daily grain ration is 10 pounds of feed. Squealer announces a reduction of \(10\%\). Calculate the new daily feed ration.
Problem 3.2: Clover the draft horse receives a large daily ration of 25 pounds of feed. Her ration is cut by \(20\%\). Find her new final daily ration.
4 TASK 4: Windmill Workload Rates
Building the stone windmill requires coordinated animal labor to haul heavy boulders from the quarry.
Problem 4.1: Boxer can haul 6 tons of stone per day. Clover can haul 4 tons of stone per day.
A) How many combined tons can they haul together in 1 day? B) If they work for 6 days, how many total tons will they successfully haul?
