Visual Scaffolding
• Color Coding: Each research category is color-coded. Use the same colors in research books or digital materials to help students find matching information.
• Icon Association: Explicitly teach the meaning of each icon (house for habitat, fork for diet) before starting the research.
• Word Banks: Provide a pre-written word bank with picture icons for students to glue into the boxes if handwriting is a barrier.
Task Management
• Numbered Steps: Direct students to complete the boxes in a specific order (e.g., 1. Name, 2. Habitat, 3. Diet) to reduce overwhelm.
• Timed Intervals: Focus on one box at a time. Set a timer for 5-10 minutes per category.
• Choice Boards: Offer a limited choice of 3-5 animals to research, providing pre-selected high-interest photos.
