Lesson 01: Setup & Delivery
Learning Objective
Students will isolate the Inventory Phase from the Assembly Phase. By completing a visual check before touching any tools, they reduce working memory load and prevent project-stopping errors later.

The Hook: The 60-Second Scramble
Before handing out organized kits, gather students around a large bin filled with mixed screws, bolts, and brackets.
The Action:
"I am holding one specific M6 Connector Bolt. I need one student to find its twin in this bin. You have 60 seconds. Ready? Go!"
The Debrief Question:
"Why was that stressful? Now imagine doing that while also trying to figure out where the piece goes in a 20-page instruction book."
Step-by-Step Facilitation

Define "Isolating the Step"
Explain that inventory is NOT "starting the project." It is a separate preparation step. Emphasize that jumping ahead to Step 1 without inventory is the #1 cause of failure in fabrication.

Visual Matching
Pass out the Part Match Inventory Log . Show students how to compare the physical size of a screw to the drawing on the page. Model "Count Once, Check Once."

The "Organized Staging Area"
Instruct students to keep their parts on the inventory log or in separate small containers (egg cartons work well) for the duration of the build. They should not touch them again until the specific instruction calls for it.
Working Memory Supports
For High-Support Needs:
Pre-count parts into small baggies, but still have the student perform the matching and counting on the log to build the habit.
For Extension:
Include "Decoy Parts" in their kit. The student must identify the extra pieces and set them aside as "not part of the inventory."

The Fastening Process
Phase 1: Hand-Tight
Use your fingers to turn the nut or bolt until it touches the surface. This makes sure you don't cross-thread it!
Phase 2: Tool-Tight
Use the wrench or screwdriver. Turn until it is firm.
This is the single step most people skip.
Close the Loop
Don't let your brain "plan" for the next screw until the current screw is 100% finished.

Lesson 02: One Fastener at a Time
The Hook: The Wobbly Chair Demo
You will need a small chair or stool with the fasteners halfway loosened.
The Action
Place the chair in the center of the room. Ask a student to sit on it (carefully!). The chair will wobble or lean dangerously.
The Insight
"The person who built this put EVERY screw in, but they didn't FINISH any of them. Rushing to the end makes the whole project a fail."

Level Visual Indicator Physical Test Feedback String 1: Loose Gaps visible between nut/bolt and surface. Part rattles or rotates freely by hand. "Step not closed. Teaching the "Tool Transition"
Students with working memory needs often forget why they are holding a tool. Instruction: Tell them to put the tool DOWN between screws.
1. Pick up screw. 2. Hand-thread. 3. Pick up tool. 4. Tighten. 5. Put tool down.
Spatial Support Tip
Use color-coded stickers on the assembly project (e.g., a green dot next to the first screw hole, a blue dot next to the second). This anchors their attention to the Current Task only.

The Problem
If you are physically tied to your partner, you must move together. You cannot rush ahead because your partner is literally holding you back.
The Lesson
In assembly, the instructions should hold you back just like that rope. Don't move until the instructions say "GO."

The Hook
The "Hands-Tied" Challenge
Students are often resistant to partner roles because they want to "just do it." This hook creates a physical consequence for rushing.
Instruction:
"For this activity, you are physically tied to your partner's wrist with a short piece of rope or a zip-tie (loose). Your goal is to move a stack of 10 nuts from point A to point B. If the rope goes tight, you have to start over."
The Takeaway:
Success depends on matching the speed of the slowest person. In assembly, we must match the speed of the instructions.

Strict Resource Control
Give the Instruction Manual only to 'The Brain' and the Toolkit only to 'The Hands.' If you see 'The Hands' looking at the book, pause the project.

Verbal Sign-Off
Walk around and listen for the scripts on the Stop-Check-Go Cards . Students should not proceed until they hear the specific "Locked Connection" confirmation from their partner.

Role Swapping
Halfway through the build, force a role swap. This helps students experience both the cognitive load of reading and the physical precision of building.
Reflection Prompts
Question 1:
"Which role was harder for your brain? Remembering what to do (Brain) or doing it perfectly (Hands)?"
Question 2:
"Did having a partner make you go faster or slower? Why is slow and correct better than fast and wrong?"
Conflict Management
If partners are arguing or one is dominating, introduce the "3-Second Rule": The Brain must wait 3 seconds after the Hands finishes a step before speaking the next instruction. This enforces the "Check" phase.

Lesson 04: Visualizing Orientation
Activity Goal
Before students touch their actual kits, they must identify the "front," "back," "top," and "bottom" of three common objects in the room. This builds the mental habit of Checking Orientation First.
Teacher Setup
Identify 3 objects (e.g., Chair, Tablet, Drawer).
Place a small piece of blue tape on the "Front" of each.
Have students find the tape and explain why it's the front.
