Teacher Instructional Directive: Self-Pacing Operation
Assign each student their specific diagnostic pathway depending on weekly session count (3x, 2x, 1x). Students read anchor texts as a cohort, but work independently through designated modules during individual practice periods. Maintain a physical and digital module tracker to check mastery before moving forward.

8th Grade Cohort
Self-Paced Module Model
Non-Wilson 8th-Grade Cohort
This guide is specifically tailored to 8th-grade SETSS students who do not receive Wilson decoding instruction. These students have ELA levels from 5th to 7th grade and attend 1, 2, or 3 sessions of 35-min weekly.
Diagnostic Matching Routine
- • Pre-Assess: Administer Term 1 text screening to establish baseline levels.
- • Goal Match: Align current performance with student-specific IEP milestones below.
IEP Mapping & Diagnostic Matrix (8th-Grade Non-Wilson)
| Code | Sessions | ELA Level | Primary IEP Target Skill Areas | Assigned Indiv. Modules |
|---|
| AFo | 3x / wk | 5.0 - 6.0 | Oral reading accuracy, morphological study (base words/prefixes), single-paragraph organization, and main ideas/sequencing. | Module A, Module D |
| AMa | 3x / wk | 7.0 | Analytical literary devices, narrative structure, tracking author's word choice, and self-directed revision strategies. | Module B, Module D |
| FGr | 3x / wk | 7.0 | Sequencing, inferences on character/plot/setting, punctuation and subject-verb editing, and multi-paragraph composition. | Module B, Module C |
| GLi | 2x / wk | 7.0 | Using illustrations & text features, context clues, basic beginning-middle-ending structure, and capitalization check. | Module A, Module B, Module D |
| SCh | 2x / wk | 7.0 | Sequencing events at grade level, writing logical multi-paragraphs, self-editing punctuation, and backing claims. | Module B, Module C |
| TPM | 1x / wk | 6.0 | Citing two pieces of evidence, identifying central ideas, editing grammar/spelling, and multi-paragraph writing. | Module B, Module C, Module D |
Cohort Goal Alignment Strategy
Use the Universal Modules to deliver grade-level standards to the entire group during shared instruction (first 10 minutes of select sessions), then divert students to their Individualized Modules to target specific IEP needs (e.g., GLi working on context clues, FGr/SCh working on multi-paragraph editing mechanics).
