The Echo Strategy
When you hear a direction, your brain starts a timer. After about 2 seconds, that information begins to fade.

The Script: Introducing the Echo
"Class, today we are training our brains to be Mission Control centers. Information comes in like a radio signal. If we don't catch it and repeat it, the signal fades away. We call this the Echo Strategy . When I give you a direction, your job is to whisper it back to yourself before you move. That whisper locks the signal into your memory."

Echo Success Rubric
Skill Component Level 1 (Developing) Level 2 (Proficient) Level 3 (Mastery) Auditory Catch Needs multiple repetitions to start echo. Begins echo after a slight delay. Immediate subvocalization upon hearing. Impulse Control Moves body before finishing the echo. Pauses body, but echo is incomplete. Body remains still until echo is finished. Troubleshooting Memory Blocks

The Signal Problem
Too Much Static?
Sometimes teachers use a lot of words to say something simple. If your brain tries to hold every word, it might crash.
What you hear:
"Okay everyone, if you could just please take your blue pencils and very carefully underline the date at the top of the page..."
What you need:
UNDERLINE
The Action Verb is the core of the signal.
The Filter Protocol
Step 1: Discard Junk
Ignore "please," "if you could," and "very carefully."
Step 2: Catch the Action
Listen for the one word that tells you what to DO.
Step 3: Lock and Echo
Repeat that one verb. "Underline... underline... underline..."

Simulating Noise
You can use YouTube for background noise (search: "Cafeteria Noise" or "Classroom Chatter"). Alternatively, enlist 2-3 students to whisper/tap while you speak.
Goal:
Create a "signal-to-noise ratio" where students can still hear you if they concentrate, but it feels like a struggle.

Fast isn't Always Accurate.
If you start moving before you've finished processing the direction, you might head the wrong way.
The "Impulse Error"

The Pause-Process-Perform Protocol
1. PAUSE
Freeze your body completely when you hear the command.
2. PROCESS
Count to 3 in your head. During this time, run your Echo loop.
3. PERFORM
Only move after the count is finished. Precision over speed.
